wow! that was a lot worse than i expected!

Both control arms
Hub/spindle strut a'ssy quarter panel $700 worth of parts, at best I'd fix it. |
This is a great opportunity to do some upgrades! New paint job and possibly a bodykit or front/rear lip spoiler would be cool. Also since your rear suspension is the poo, you should also replace the bushings as well.

Wow, that sucks! For comparison, here's a pic of my damage from last year. To give you an idea of what to expect, this cost the other driver's insurance $2600 to fix at a reputable body shop:
Attachment 213976 The difference is, the front fender is a bolt-on piece, and the rear quarter isn't. My rear quarter was dented in just slightly, but was successfully pulled out with studs. Actually, just that little region was responsible for about half of the cost. Given that yours is a '90 and has extensive rear quarter damage, I don't see any way that the insurance isn't going to total it. It's probably fixable if you replaced the subframe, control arms & whatnot and then sourced a good rear quarter and cut & welded it in, but that might be as much of a PITA as getting a new shell and swapping your parts over. Sorry man. Damn inattentive drivers. :vash: |

i just WAIT for the day my Miata gets rear ended. :giggle: g'luck! |
I might be able to get you some control arms cheap from a friend. Some lady totaled the front of his miata so hes parting it out.
|
it fixed more on my car when i spun off the road. swap subframes, quarter can be done if you can drill out old spot welds and spot weld a new one on, remove old replace with new. I couldn't do it so i had a body shop put the new quarter one and i did the rest and had a friend paint it.
My car was: front bumper left fender left door left quarter rear bumper |
The subframe may even be fine. You may just need new control arms. No biggie. Spec guys bend these all the time. The quarter is the worst part of the damage.

Well heres the news as of late, I just got the car back to my house after my friends dad started getting ornery about it being parked in front of his house. Upon inspecting the car closer it looks like only the upper control arm got buggered. the other shit looks straight especially the mounting points for the control arms on the car :giggle: so... Methinks I will dawdle with the insurance company to get them to pay me for the 40+ hrs of work i put into this badboy and the $2300 in shit i have on it and then we will go from there. So it looks like I may be keepin her after all (interest in thread -30 points). Anyone know if the rear quarter panel is a bolt on affair?
|
it isn't. you will have to do a little welding. and drill out some spot welds.
|
Another option would be to just push the dents out as much as possible, replace the broken parts, and drive it around while you save for another clean chassis. And then there is the chance the insurance check from buying it back will be enough to buy another right away.

However if you just asked that, you have basically no chance repairing this on your own. This is one of those "If you have to ask, you can't do it" type of things. |
 Upon looking at the car closer its not just the quarter panel, there is a tear in the metal connecting the trunk to the wheel well all the metal in that area looks like cloth (ripple like) it don't look good
