Turbo Miata vs Mustang GT?

Pics and video on page 10.

This ricer-autozone-mexican type guy wants to race my Miata. I know him through work. Anyways we are going to do it at the track in a couple weeks so I have time to finish tuning my car, if he actually shows up.

He has a '95 convertible mustang gt 5.0L, 5 speed, ricer body kit,:giggle: loud exhaust or no exhaust maybe it's an autozone special exhaust idk, and completely removed the stock intake, and stock everything else. He says he will run with slicks provided he even passes tech. If he does'nt get slicks he will use his gansta' solid aluminum 20" wheels lol.

Ok, here's what I have.

1991 1.6L Miata, 5 speed, sr20 t25 turbo @ 8psi, NO intercooler I'm using a Snow water injection kit. 3" exhaust with magnaflow cat, Megasquirt, 430cc supra injs, new exedy clutch from the stealership. I have a choice in tires. 30lb stock size Nitto NT01's or 35lb 15"x205 BFG drag radials.

So who will win?

18psi 12-30-2009 06:33 PM

you should definitely win. but I wouldn't say by too much. those things are slow as balls and are lucky to run high 14's and his sounds like its even worse than a stock one, but then you're running a non intercooled t25 at only 8psi. You'll probably have about .5 to .8 seconds on him if you drive it right.

just my :2cents:

I should take a picture of this thing lol. Maybe I will on monday.

I have water injection though. Isn't that even better than an intercooler?

miata2fast 12-30-2009 07:11 PM

If he is on slicks, and if he has anything significant done to the car, he will be in the 13's at the slowest. Slicks will net big gains on the track in a higher horsepower car.

If you want to win, your best bet is practice.

Good luck.

budget racer 12-30-2009 07:15 PM

he will.....because your rear will explode when you launch on drag tires

It depends, but I guess I forgot about that in the other post. So lets say it is just as good as an intercooler: you still have a 1.6 on low boost from a small turbo. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure its still pretty damn quick, but not 12 second quick.

I think IF you can drive you will pull off mid 13's. Maybe a bit better but it all depends on how well everything is running and MOST importantly how well you can launch/shift.

His POS will probably do 14's all day long.

*edit just noticed your ability to run drag radials: that should definitely get you to low 13's at least.

leatherface24 12-30-2009 07:50 PM

You will loose if you dont know how
to drive well and he does. /thread

Import Al 12-30-2009 07:59 PM

He drive's the Vanilla Ice car, a '95 vert GT is one of the slowest 5.0 cars you can find, its nearly 1.5+ seconds slower than an LX & 1 behind a GT coupe/notch. These cars usually run low 15/high 14s at our track stock.

You'll creep past his baller 20" wheels, but it shouldn't be buslengths or anything. Make sure your on the DR's though!

In for pics of Ricestang....and vids of your diff exploding at the track.

Cookie Monster 12-30-2009 08:18 PM

Oh yeah I foregot to mention I have about 150-200 passes from a few cars like a '89 supra 7mge, '93 Mazda Protege, old beat up '92 miata, and most of my time is from a '92 Nissan Sentra SE-R with a sr20ve motor, I sold that car for a Miata again lol. This Miata is my first turbo car so far I love it.

My friend will be driving his mustang because the owner has no experience drag racing. My buddy says he's done plenty of it but I've never seen him run and he will have little time to get used to the mustang.

I can still talk him out of the slicks I doubt they will have the money for them anyways. I could tell him it's not faster than my car on the street if he has to use slicks to beat me on the track. It's still two and a half weeks away so we will see what changes.

I bet $100 on it because I don't race for free haha.

I hope the clutch slips first haha. I've been looking at the salvage yards for a 1.8 torsen. We've beat the crap out of these 1.6's and they've been taking it so far. I will be launching the car preloaded so that should help some.

Ben 12-30-2009 08:38 PM

He will win because he will finish.
If you don't grenade the diff at the launch, you will grenade the motor with a clogged WI nozzle. :giggle:

Without mechanical failures and equal drivers, I'd bet on your car, but real world racing is different than computer racing.

Faeflora 12-30-2009 10:11 PM

How do you launch the car preloaded?

johnwag 12-30-2009 10:22 PM

It sounds like your car should beat the crap out of his, based solely on horsepower to weight. You WILL HAVE TO launch like a bad ass!

I need to see pictures of the mustang.......i mean, disguSTANG.

My first car, when I was 16, was an '88 disguSTANG with the 2.3 liter and an automatic. it was, best I could tell, gray in color originally or a very light blue. It had terrible blue interior. It sucked to high heaven. The car cost $150. Hard to beat. It leaked trans fluid and the heater core was fucked, as my windshield would fog up. It always had bald tires due to the fact that it was such a pile of shit. It was always covered in birdshit and I never washed it, hence the "disguSTANG" title for it. I slid it in to a stop sign on the slick as ice mall drive, bent a couple of wheels, and fuck it up really bad when i fell asleep at the wheel one time. I wish i had pictures of all the carnage. My dad and I eventually ended up donating it to some lucky person.

Gotpsi? 12-30-2009 11:21 PM

I think he should drive his own car or he is a fag, if you cant drive you cant drive.

agreed

Does the dude have other people fuck his girlfriend too?

Stein 12-30-2009 11:43 PM

Forget the naysayers. You are going home -$600 richer. You will win the $100 but will be spending the $700 for a torsen soon.

i made 200 whp with just wi and my 16g so yeah you will pull him pretty well. At that trim lvl i smoked a few stockish 5.0's with cams, headers exhaust etc and it was no problem i would pull 2-3 cars in a 50-100 dig if he has heads on that thing you could be in for some trouble though unless you up the boost. Also ima have to agree with some of the previus posters if you cant drive or keep traction he will pwn you.

thirdgen 12-31-2009 12:38 AM

I didn't read this whole thread cause I know from experience. You are running 8psi on a 1.6 liter with the same turbo as I run on my 1.8. If your clutch is stock, you will lose. If your at the track and your time slip doesn't have at least a 2.02 60', you will lose. I raced my friend's '93 mustang that has a 306 with trick flow top end. He can't drive. I was running 12psi (roughly 210whp dyno proven on my car) my car weighs 2350 with me sitting in it. I launched like a pussy so my clutch wouldn't slip (cause it's still stock). The center of his front wheel was inline with my front bumper when we crossed the line. Meaning he beat me by 1-2 tenths of a second. Don't run slicks or drag radials, run a good street tire. The '95 mustang if I am mistaken is heavier than a fox body, but still, 4psi less, with less power than me? If I have to place my bet, I'm not sure who I'd put it on. Moral of the story, don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
