Turboing a 01+ car
Yes, I am new here and am shure some are going to flame. I am selling my spec miata and looking to get a street/track car to do TT with NASA. I may be trading my car for an 01. I am interested in puting a turbo on the car. I have searched and can't find any info. I just need some guidance.
I have read that the hydra can opperate the vvti. I have also read that the hydra has ahad some problems. Is there a MS unit that can do the same thing? What would you sugest as far as fuel management? Also if there is any thing else that you can sugest pleaese do so. If this is in the wrong section please feel free to move. Have a great day, Jared |
There are some extremely fast boosted 01+ cars around. Hydra does control VVT, but so does AEM, and Adaptronic. There is a controller for MS on a VVT engined car in Atlanta. I don't think it will be too much longer before it's released, but I've not kept myself in the loop either.

I would like to have a full stand alone insted of a piggyback, but at this time i think we are very limited on options.
Have a great day, Jared |
So looks like Hydra or AEM right now. Hydra's going to have better support.
MS will be there soon. |

On a serious note, there are a ton of people with boosted 01+ cars. Jay, y8s, and more. Tons of threads about different setups. Tons of threads about engine management for 99+ cars. The info is out there, and there is PLENTY of it. Now if you have a specific question, that's a different story, but please don't be lazy. As far as em goes, like Ben said, you can do ms parallel, aem, hydra, xede, or the adaptronic to name a few. Some are piggybacks and some are full on standalone, but all are pretty common. |

Only reason for any sort of parallel installation is OBD testing. Otherwise, standalone is much simpler to implement.

When I have the money I am going to buy a full kit. I have not decided yet on which one I will do more research.
Yes, there is many NB'S that are turboed. I have seen many posts, but I can't seam to 01+ specific. Maybe I am lame, but I would rather be lame and ask a simple question in hopes that then next person who has the same question has an eaiser time of finding the solution to their questions. Thank you and have a great day, Jared |

There's lots of used kits around for sale and if you search the classifieds here and on miata.net, there was also a hydra or two for sale. I would have saved several thousand if I had bought used. You can also save a lot of money by purchasing a car that's already been turbo'd.
There's not too much special about the 01+ cars other than VVT and higher compression and Mazdaspeeds. The Mazdaspeed may be a better starting platform than the non-Mazdaspeeds though. |

Here's an awesome deal on a BEGI S4--
registration required-- ClubRoadster.net I think it's for sale here too. |
get ready to spend some serious coin to make it reliable. Also, not going to v-bands is a mistake because the studs will fail.

Only if you're a track slut

turbo the 01.
Adaptronic also controls VVT. And clearly the dude knows he's fucked for OBDII if he's living in California and wants a full standalone. |
There is always this one:)
https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t40059/ I'll even drop it off, no shipping cost. |

Don't know why you keep pushing that angle. MS2 > MS1. NB CAS > NA CAS. Controlling VVT > Not controlling VVT. Get it?
