+1 on the grounds
Not that they shake loose but the added current at high RPMs makes bigger voltage loss over the oxide.
After killing a lot of stuff with poor grounds a fat braid will be installed before I get the engine back in.

Add a jumper-cable between the chassis (or maybe the battery negative terminal) and the engine and make a test?
