Default Wandering CAS

I just installed a new crank sensor in my NB1, and I'm having a problem that I've never heard of before. I set the air gap on the CAS to one Dunkin Donuts giftcard, then start the car with no issue. Then, randomly the car will begin to stutter, I lose RPM sync and I'm stranded...until I reset the air gap on the CAS, and I'm on my way again.
I've been setting the air gap by turning the motor over until one of the trigger wheel teeth is about halfway through the CAS's face. Then I turn the CAS's bolt, so that the CAS squeezes up against the car. That's been working pretty well for me thus far. But the gap continues to increase on its own - or the gap could be decreasing, the tooth hits the CAS, so that the CAS is too far from the wheel to read.
I'm thinking of throwing a split washer between the bolt and the CAS and seeing if that will help it from moving. My thought process here is that the new CAS and the bolt's "mating" surface is very smooth and therefore allows slip. Whereas the old CAS was slightly corroded allowing for more grip
- I could be full of **** too.

I've noticed that the CAS is SUPER sensitive to the gap, sometimes it takes me 2/3 tries just to get the engine started with a credit card gap. On the stock ECU (I'm running a DIYPNP), the gap was far less sensitive. Is there anything in TS that I can change to makes the MS less sensitive?
