I got lucky with the dimensions of the Alpine. Three of the four mounting screws go through the reinforcing rails in the lid - hence the strange angle. The fourth required a short bracket to pick up on a rail.

Brain: The NB has the spare in the well and I keep one in there. Yes, the amp still takes up the same volume but I wanted clear floor space to lug my autoX box in and out - different strokes etc.

undoubtedly!!!! I'd love to push 250hp out of my 4cyl motor...if I had 3 grand layin around to completely build a motor.... it would so be on!!

How thick is your amp? You lose that much seat travel. If passengers complain they can get out.

I have a 700 watt kicker amp bolted to the floor. It made too much heat in there, so I made a sub-floor, that covers the well, all but about an inch at the rear of the well. I mounted a large fan from a server in the front right corner of the sub-floor, to circulate air. I used a speaker grill from an 8" sub, to protect the fan. It now stays very cool, and I have a clear floor to carry whatever in the trunk. Lost a little height, but the trunk is still quite functional.

The spare still fits in the original location, but I need to reroute the cables, and finish off the mounting for the floor. I put in a relay, that is switched by the head unit, so the fan only runs when the tunes are turned on.

All Kicker speakers, 2 - 6.5" components in the doors, tweeters mounted in the outer ac vents, 4 - 3.5" in the headrests, 2 - 8" subs in a JL stealthbox. Top down, the car wont go fast enough to make the sound less than excellent! Pioneer head unit, with a 250 gig hard drive for music storage, long trips, wife at home, great tunes, big smiles!

I had my amps (Old school MTX) mounted in the wheel well too like Alta Racer and had the same problem. Heat would kick on the circuit protection and turn them off. I was going to mount fans but decided to mount them upright to allow more free flowing air and let me use the spare well to hold other shit.

Alta, I have very similar amp. the KX500.1 or something... Mine never overheats, unless it does...but I have that bag sitting right on it.

You aren't old enough to be hard of hearing! I don't remember the 60's either. I thought it was you young guys that all drove around with the amps clipping.

I can't explain why I was going into thermal protection, but that location has a few things working against it. I think the muffler right under the amp, with no real insulation, and the lack of airflow in the trunk. I do have a fair amount of speaker load, and have considered a different way to wire the headrest speakers. They are wired parallel, and series may have been the correct way. I do crank it fairly hard too.
