water pump help
im replacing a water pump in my 91 miata and ive got all the bolts off the timing belt out of the way and everything else but the water pump is stuck where its inside the block...ive tried wiggling it out no luck. i put the pully back on and tried pulling from there with no luck.
the whole pump can wiggle in any direction. it seems to piviot at one point, thats why im saying it might be stuck in the block any ideas as to how i can get this pump out? any tricks i should know? |
Pivot around one point? Are you sure that you didn't miss a single bolt? The tolerance to the block is pretty close, but mine just kinda fell out. Other than that, I'm no help.

it piviots on where the wheel of the pump is inside the block.. i know the pump is broken because it makes a nasty noise when its spun(hence why im replacing it). im thinking thats the problem tho |
My first one was rough to get out too. It just takes some creative jiggling to remove. Make sure you're pulling perpendicular from the block.

the location where it mates with the block is flat on both surfaces. No part of the waterpump goes inside the block aside from the propeller wheel or whatever its called. and that's way smaller than the hole that it sits in.
What about the alternator bolt? |

What about the alternator bolt? the alternator bolt was covered on m.net.... its on 1.8 cars. i dont have one. since mine is a 91 |
just yank the bastard out, if its broken it cant hurt anything. It may have been replaced by a previous owner and they may have used high tack on the gasket. Which once it sets is a bitch. If you are 110% sure all the bolts are out your next bet is to get in there with a screwdriver or pry bar and start prying on it
edit for fail of not fully reading first post...go to the second part of my message, screwdrivers and/or pry bars are now your friends |
ended up getting it out.. there was a chunk of metal stuck in there..
