My personal opinion is that satin/flat paint jobs look unfinished. Like you're waiting for next payday so you can have the color coat applied. Just my opinion, it's worth what you paid for it.

There's a flat black 996 turbo cab running around Malibu where I live and imo, it looks kinda like ****, very original and when you see it you think WTF? but it just doesn't work on such a high end supposedly sleek car. On certain cars like the first two posted and the VW, satin paint rocks, especially satin silver.

I think the non-shiny paint looks best on super high-end cars.

I saw a Pontiac Sunfire tonight that was flat black with louvers on the back window. When I saw it I thought of this thread and laughed.

Above, that is a satin paintjob which looks good.

And I'm not saying that non-shiny paint looks bad on supercars, but flat black looks bad on a porsche turbo. Almost any satin paint job which isn't black would probably look great, but the flat black looks like **** usually.

The different between it looklike like rice **** and looking nice is how it's applied.

looks like **** = comes in a can and you and your friends do it. No matter what, spray paint looks like **** on large surfaces.

looks good = sprayed using a automotive spray gun

satinflat

I say if you're going to do it, have a shop do it the right way with the right satin paint.

i'd do it on a track car, but i dunno about a daily. it would be nice to do it yourself and save a ton on bodywork tho.
