Nb2 door cards are first. Gonna be the flat NA style. Still debating on mounting and door release options. Will be trying them with 2 layers of carbon being as they will be strictly a "beauty piece" that are used to reduce a good amount of weight and still being presentable.

TNTUBA 11-11-2015 07:50 AM

All BS aside. I wish someone would build a set of CF front and rear bumper covers. It's crazy how heavy those things are.

TNTUBA 11-11-2015 07:52 AM

^^^If there was a set available to buy today....I'd pay you today. So, I'm like super serious^^^

NeedDirection 11-11-2015 10:15 AM

That is something I want to do. I would have to have an open discussion on who actually would buy and how they would want them to be. They are extremely heavy. The biggest body parts on miatas to shave weight is bumpers, doors, and hardtops. The rest is hardly anything worth writing home about in comparison. The rear is fairly straight foward from a design point. Oem style then let the end user tailor to their setup. The front is another thing. For a street/track car I find the typical track miata front end ugly. But the results speak for themselves. If we could come up with a unanimous vote on a style that looks good all around and still easy enough to make cheapie considering in track conditions it needs to be somewhat robust.

NeedDirection 11-11-2015 10:19 AM

For some direction of where I am going with this. First item I will be marketing will be nb2 flat door cards (either unfinished for you to complete or a complete "kit"), next I have some fender ideas I want to try and want to make a "clamshell" front end. Would be a very business oriented race look. When I get closer to that item I will start a discussion on how to approach the aerodynamic side on a typical keyboard riding engineering point.

I'd want oem style but with my fog bezels so they can be repurposed for brake ducting

Would you consider making carbon fiber timing cover similar to the Maruha cover, but to fit VVT engines?

I could send you some pieces if you want to build a mold. I have the upper off the valve cover, and can get you the plastic lower.

That would be very easy and doable. I will add that to the list. We can slide that into the 2nd spot after the door panels. If you don't need theme you can send them and when I get them done we can arrange a price break for your set and what not. It will be a couple months before I get to that though. Just let me know

I have spare VVT timing covers. Hit me up when you need them.

BenR 11-13-2015 12:18 PM

Hood with headlight lids moulded in and an extraction vent for radiator.

Would be happy with fiberglass if it wasn't heavier than stock.

cw_mx5 11-13-2015 12:25 PM

shorty console and cover for fuel /trunk lever.

rear diffuser.

Front subframe.

Front NB subframe, also might as well do NB control arms also.

I assumed the subframe would be made with the updated geometry. And I feel the V8Roadsters control arms are fine, but a carbon fiber subframe patterned after the tubular V8R subframe would be fantastic for removing weight form the front end.

Miata2fast would buy one so fast it would make your head spin. Several others would too.

wannafbody 11-14-2015 04:23 PM

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper and possibly stronger to build the front subframe from aluminum?

But that's not the point....it would be cheaper and easier to make it out of wood. Or steel. But that's not what this thread is about.

acedeuce802 11-14-2015 04:42 PM

I wouldn't do anything structural unless you have many many years of experience analyzing and laying up structural carbon.

Control arms would be legit, but not laid up. Just use aluminum inserts with pre-laid carbon tubes bonded inbetween.

Lol some of these ideas are not even worth commenting on. Shorty console is something I am interested in. As of now. The order of builds I am interested in doing is:
1. NB flat style door cards
2. Timing covers for both 1.8 bp4w and vvt heads. Not sure if there is a difference but I have a spare bp4w engine in the garage.
3. Shorty consoles will probably make a plug while makeig the molds for the timing covers.
4. Clamshell hood/fenders.

Will make as many NB door cards first to pay for the mold making of the timing covers and shorty consoles. Then make as many of the consoles and timing covers as possible to hopefully make enough to do the Clamshell mold. Parts will be sold in order of received payment. And will not do group buys due to extreme part time nature of these tasks. Will be able to be made in fiberglass or carbon. Carbon will be sourced from U.S. composites and will be their discount rolls when and if they have it available in the widths needed for the parts. Which should be easy enough on all the parts minus the clamshell. Parts may or may not be show quality due to the nature of the discounted carbon but no part will go out that is not dimensionally perfect and resin flaws free.
