Get rid of the weatherstripping at the back of the engine bay. It releases more heat than you'd think, and the effect is amplified with TSIs

I'm putting mine back on for a couple reasons.
1. the cowl is a high pressure area and you'll only release any heat when stopped / going slow.
2. the engine heat gets into the interior through the vents. I may not have AC but I like to run the fan to get some breeze when the top's up.
3. pressure differential across the radiator at speed.

I have a small section of weatherstripping removed by the driver's fender. The rest of it is in place. I did that when the greddy filter was jammed up in there, thought maybe it might suck down some cooler air.
I sprayed my engine bay off with a hose last week. Then went for a quick ride to make sure the ignition didn't get wet. It was a slow 25 mph jaunt with one quick blast to 40. But when I hit 40, water shot out from the hood through the small gap in the weatherstripping, and plastered the driver's side windshied.
So it seems that in some events, it would be good to remove it, and in others it needs to stay. Stop n go, autocross, etc, remove it. Track, highway, etc, leave it.

Word. Passengers would be all,"uuuuuhhhhh dude! Your ******* hood is coming off!!!"
I don't see how something like that would be all too terribly difficult to do. Similar to the active aerodynamics like the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR-4, various Porsche's, and ****. Alrighty, Lazzer, go raid the junkyards for the moving goodies.

The above stated would be nice, or if you could seal off the top part of the hood to still allow heat evacuation out the sides, that would be nice as well.
If I build an all out race miata, I'm cutting the front fenders from the door to the wheel right at the body "line" and pulling it out to vent. Much like this

My friend Ted is a pretty resourceful guy too, I'm going to pitch this his direction and see what he says... conveniently his nephew, a rocket scientist (literally), is moving in with him for a spell.... The rocket scientist nephew also happens to be a Megasquirt enthusiast too and is in the process of building a turbo'ed Falcon.
