Who wants a Full Carbon Dash?

Ok fellas I will not drop the names as of yet, I just want to see how many NA miata owners would like a real carbon dash for their miata. Non of that ViS or other makes that make carbon wrapped fiberglass parts, this thing is real deal, multiple layers or carbon fiber inside and out. It can be sealed for smooth, yet dry carbon look, or clearcoated for shine.

Right now they made a s13 dash which I held with 3 fingers, the whole thing weighted 5lbs.

Dont matter what I will be getting one and then will post pictures for all of you to see, the price is not final yet, but im assuming the more interest there is the more they can make (knowing there is market for it) at affordable price to you.

So whos interested?

hustler 09-28-2009 02:36 PM

this should be affordable.

curly 09-28-2009 02:44 PM

I held my stock dash with one finger.

It's not the skin but the metal structure, wiring harness, and hvac hardware that weigh a lot.

rharris19 09-28-2009 02:45 PM

Probably not too much of a demand. My gutted dash from a 90-93 only weighs about 4-5lbs without the frame. The weight is all in the metal tube frame under it.

edit: beat me to it

Project_MX-5 09-28-2009 02:46 PM

maybe thats why they crack lol.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-28-2009 02:55 PM

I'm sure it would be popular with the club roadster crowd but I don't think I could justify the cost personally

UrbanSoot 09-28-2009 03:25 PM

i might be in if they can make me one without air vents and perhaps a radio surround without air vents/hvac holes. can they do stuff to my specs (id like to re-position my 7" touch screen which resides in radio surround to a different angle/location)? any idea on price? any way to make it absorb light instead of reflecting it or would i have to paint it?

yeah yeah yeah... but wouldnt it be cool to build all the sensors/gauges to be EXACTLY where you want them? plus it would be great to custom mount for arduino in there with easy access (for those quick c++ bug fixes when shit goes wrong at the track)

neogenesis2004 09-28-2009 03:34 PM

HAHA, I guess. Not sure how many people are coding on the track.

I think it would be easier to just rip out the stock dash and make your own from flat carbon panels.

Hey what do you know a fellow arduino junkie. I've been trying to figure out a good miata based project for the atmega chip for a while now, haha

neogenesis2004 09-28-2009 04:29 PM

I just got him to buy one over the weekend. I personally have been developing a "to-be" OS WI monitor/controller. Troubleshooting flow meter input atm. Hush hush right now until I have a working example.

UrbanSoot 09-28-2009 04:37 PM

ill be building an idle stabilization for my gsxr itb kit that has stepper motor for secondary (idle) butterflies. it will be based on rpm input through this sucker and gm map sensor. as an added bonus, ill build a led array for rpm display (like this one but only if that frequency to voltage converter has enough resolution) and a 10hz gps/accelerometer datalogger.

Yes they can do that, when they "seal" it it will look like dry carbon so no reflections there. They produce carbon parts for the government such as nose for fighter jets, and laser transmitters. All their carbon is military grade not some weave your grandma made in her spare time :)

Sounding even more expensive every time you post.

lol, yes it does. BUT the company is not well known he tried making hoods, and wrx/sti scoops and nobody bought (even though his material is much better) because there are companies such as ViS and Seibon who have been around for year, and even though his prices were same as competition or less.

Thats one of the reasons he wants to start making dashes and other stuff, that no one else makes, "get the name out there" so to say. I assure you the price will be fair.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-28-2009 10:05 PM

why not make body panels? or hard tops?

The main reason why CF hoods dont seem to sell well in the miata world is because the stock one is aluminum, and when you remove the under bracing its extremely light.

Project_MX-5 09-28-2009 10:08 PM

Ok just got the word, price will be $800-1200 depending on the dash.

I can get pictures tomorrow.
