Default Wow, no wonder I get tailgated so much in the Miata.

I now have a GPS velocity display in the instrument cluster and my the accuracy of the Mazda speedometer is even worse than I suspected. It reads 45 at 37! My other car's speedometer is dead on to 100+.

hmm, I get tailgated when going 10/15mph over the speed limit-thought people were just being jerks but maybe there is something to this-will have to have some friends pace me sometime to check.

There is always someone wanting to go faster than you and will tailgate you...

On another note, those gauges are pretty damn cool!

Didn't he build them? I remember seeing a bird's nest of wires for those.

Tested all my cars when I got the Garmin:

Miata - consistently reads 5mph over actual

Xterra - lies and tells you you're still under limit when you're actually 3mph over

Cavalier - dead friggin spot on up to top speed (not much)

I am running stock size tires on original 1990 alloys.

And yes, the gauges are custom.

When I pass those radar detectors with the display(like in school zones) it's usually around 5 or so mph off...

In the northeast it is considered gauche to shoot other drivers. We get by with honking.

you could lift off your speedometer needle and re-position it...

if you wanted your factory guages not to have the green tint light, you can slip off the green vinyl covers from the light bulbs.

The gauge is not a fixed amount off -- it is correct at 25 MPH, for example. So moving the needle won't make it more accurate across the whole range.

The green and yellow is kind of ugly but I don't really care. This project is not about aesthetics...

Actually there is a green tint on the back of the gauges too...which can be sanded off. I did it and it came out nice.

BOT - That's a damn nice setup. My speedo is off, and I know it.... I think I put it in a tick off when I did my gauges..same with my fuel gauge which when it's on E, it really is on friggin E (11.5gal to fill up.. I have put 13 in it though). I've figure out that my speedo is off by 8mph... so I always do 18mpg over the posted speed limit according to my speedo.
