Turbo Blankets!!!!

Ok guys, I had talked about trying to set something up so we could get some of these nice turbo blankets for around $110 shipped. I got it all set up with Alamo and called and ordered 2 already. They are available in black and silver.
You can call them at 817-860-4300 and reference the "Kelly Deal" for the turbo blankets. Here is a pic of mine.

BrokeEnthusiast 12-04-2006 12:11 PM

what sizes?

Kelly 12-04-2006 12:15 PM

They fit T3 and T4 based turbine housings no problem but they will also work on a lot of the smaller stuff as well when you cinch them up. You can see in my pics it fits well on my old T3 with room to cinch it up even more.

Did you find out the dimensions or should we ask when we call?

Kelly 12-04-2006 02:35 PM

Shoot them a call and see what they say. I think it will snuggle down on your T25 no problem though.

boostinsteve 12-04-2006 10:07 PM

Would you recommend the t3 for the td04h on the greddy kit. Also, how long will this group buy be open for, I just found a smoking deal for a turbo tony dp, and will have to jump on it, so, I will have to wait until the 15th to get the blanket. Sound good:robert:

Kelly 12-04-2006 10:29 PM

This is no group buy or anything. I needed a blanket and so did a buddy so I figured I would make a call to see if a bunch of people wanted them if we could get a small price break.
They only offer one blanket and it fits T3's and T4's but should work on the T25/26/and 15g

samnavy 12-06-2006 08:43 AM

Exactly how well does this thing work? I understand it will lower underhood temps, but by how much? Does it improve with scavenging? Are there ANY drawbacks?

Braineack 12-06-2006 09:09 AM

you'll be able to rest your hand on top of the blanket.

All the heat stays in the housing, which likely results in improved turbine efficiency.

Lower underhood temps are good for lower final intake temps at the manifold if the sourced air isn't as warm.

No need for being super creative with metalwork and making heat shields.

DIY Bling Factor ;)

Kelly 12-06-2006 10:23 AM

Brain pretty much summed it up. They do a great job keeping the heat in.

samnavy 12-06-2006 10:34 AM

That's what I thougt... maybe after Christmas. Car money this month goes to dyno.

Ben 12-06-2006 01:30 PM

Any issues regarding trapping moisture against the turbo?

Braineack 12-06-2006 01:47 PM

It's not acting like a sealed header wrap, so I would assume no worries.

Kelly 12-06-2006 01:59 PM

I don't think so.

rmcelwee 12-06-2006 04:09 PM

After taking a second look at my turbo I just don't see how I would mount this thing. The WG hookup and large dp flange would make my install comletely different than what you have pictured on your turbo. Ugh!

turbored 12-06-2006 04:22 PM

someone with a GReddy buy one and install it, so us risk adverse guys can see how it fits on a GReddy'd kit :)

Kelly 12-06-2006 04:23 PM

I'll send mine to someone if they wanna test fit.

jayc72 12-06-2006 04:42 PM

I don't think it would fit on the Greddy turbo because of the location of the wastegate actuator, might have to modify it some what.

Braineack 12-06-2006 04:43 PM

send it to me with the vaculator. i can test it on my t3 and brads greddy and take pics. Which will in turn probably convince me to buy one.

Kelly 12-06-2006 05:08 PM

Ok. It will probably be next tuesday when it ships out unless my blanky shows up sooner.

Kelly 12-06-2006 07:29 PM

Wow....My blanket just showed up. I ordered it on monday:bigtu:

airbrush1 12-06-2006 08:58 PM

could test fit on my T3.... have a dyno day on saturday also.....probably wouldn't make it by then.... I need to buy one....

Kelly 12-06-2006 10:24 PM

They fit perfect on T3's I am gonna go measure mine and post dimensions for you guys.

hrk 12-07-2006 12:00 PM

I could test fit to GT28R and provide photos.
Let me know.
hrk

Kelly 12-07-2006 12:16 PM

I have a guy with a Talon with a 14b that I can test fit it on. If it fits that it will fit most the small stuff.

The blanket is about 2.5" wide inside but easily opens up to around 4.5" The length of the inside is 14" end to end. This this thing will fit a lot of different turbos.

Nice pussy, looks like a nice tight one to me, by one I mean fit.

Measurements of a Garrett T25 off a redtop Nissan SR20.
Looks like the blanket would fit fine, might want to wire it together at the bottom. Should work great though.

Kelly 12-08-2006 08:23 PM

Anyone else pick one up?

jayc72 12-08-2006 08:33 PM

You have very pretty hands :)

Kelly 12-08-2006 10:47 PM

I will tell my fiance Malia you said so...they are hers:bigtu:

y8s 12-11-2006 03:04 PM

duh, how'd I miss this thread. friggin orlando sucked away my will to live.

y8s 12-12-2006 02:09 PM

whoredered.

Kelly 12-13-2006 11:20 AM

I bought a buddy one for his GTI Vr6 with a built 3.0 bottom end and a GT35R.

y8s 12-13-2006 02:14 PM

just looks so damn cuddly all bundled up for winter.

Kelly 12-13-2006 02:34 PM

I gave him a hard time for buying white exhaust wrap:gay:

boostinsteve 12-13-2006 07:33 PM

Any word yet if these fit the greddy turbo?

Kelly 12-13-2006 09:57 PM

I think it will be just fine. Here is the thing though....even if its a c-hair loose its still much better than any other option.

SamS 12-13-2006 10:11 PM

You mean it's better than my custom license plate heat sheild?

boostinsteve 12-13-2006 10:19 PM

Very true, I am mainly worried about it affecting the wastegate operation.

soospecmx5 01-17-2007 11:03 PM

Is this sale still going on? Will it fit the GT2560?

Kelly 01-18-2007 11:38 AM

Just call up Alamo. Yes it will fit fine.

How do you know Brice ( Alamo )?? I get all my stuff from him.

Kelly 01-19-2007 10:20 PM

I don't know him personally. I bought a turbo blanket for my Miata there a year and a half ago. I figured I would set something up for the guys here. From talking to him on a phone a couple times he seems like a nice guy.

ray_sir_6 01-20-2007 12:43 PM

Yeah, he is great. I get great deals from him, which includes the Greddy Turbo Kit I have on the Miata.

sergei 01-25-2007 10:41 PM

Where are the turbo blankets???

I cannot seem to find that turbo blanket on alamomotorsports.com. Can you give me the link please..
Serge
Thanks

Kelly 01-26-2007 03:42 AM

Thats because you have to call them and order it. Its not listed on the site.

sergei 01-26-2007 09:54 AM

Anybody tried it with an internal wastegate??
Will it work?
I have a GT28R (2560) with an internal wastegate.
Thanks
Serge

rotaryjunky 03-01-2007 10:58 AM

Are there any pictures with one on a GT28 internal WG?

y8s 03-01-2007 12:00 PM

I'll try to remember this weekend... I'll take one for you, but I dont use the internal gate on mine. It's the potato turbine housing welded shut. You *might* have issues with the rod. It's pretty big on there.

trito 03-07-2007 08:26 PM

Anyone got this on their Greddy turbo yet?

Strider 04-25-2007 08:17 PM

:skid: Turbo 3.0 VR6 Mmmmmm  MKIII looks like?

Kelly 04-27-2007 11:35 PM

Yup.....MKIII. We have a crew of 4 of us that all have boosted Vr6 MKIII's in my area.

Also the blanket fits over a 16g turbo with ease. Just made a little slit for the actuator rod. Works perfectly. It should fit all internally wastegated turbos with the same mod.

SKMetalworks 05-23-2007 11:47 PM

ordering one now. WOT promised that if it doesnt fit perfectly he himself will come put it on =) sounds like a deal to me:bigtu: (BTW greddy td04h

demetri 06-23-2007 08:04 PM

These still available? Is there online ordering or do we need to call them in?

Kelly 06-23-2007 11:42 PM

Call the number listed in the first post and they will take care of you

spike 06-24-2007 02:50 AM

For the people that have this, how well does this blanket work? and are there any fitment and function issues with turbos running a internal wastegate?

y8s 06-24-2007 09:50 AM

I imagine you'd have issues with an internal wastegate. This thing sits pretty snug over the housing.

super huge pic: http://gallery.y8s.com/d/17047-1/DSC02741.JPG

You can see it pretty much fits down around the CHRA so I'm not sure where you'd run the WG actuator rod...

spike 06-24-2007 12:02 PM

Thanks for the picture y8s.Does anyone else run one of these blankets with an internal wastegate? I would really like to know if it will work before I shellout that kind of money on this item.

Kelly 06-24-2007 01:28 PM

Rob at Flipside is running one on his internally gated 16g. He just made a small slit for the actuator rod and it works fine. Even better is how cool his brake fluid reservoir stays now.
