Setting up triggering with 36-2

Hi All,
I'm an absolute beginner with a Haltech elite 1500 and a P&P adaptor loom for a VVT engined car. The car has an ATI balancer with a 36-2 trigger wheel. I'm using the base map for MX5 VCT as the starting point, and want to set up the triggering and check the timing.

I believe I need to use a 'Generic multi tooth' and set the teeth count. The options in the Haltech software for the trigger specify the type of home that will be used. The standard home signal settings in the Mx5 BP NB VCT map refer to them as 'custom' but don't describe them. What trigger type and home type should I be using?

If you have a set of settings you can share that support the 36/2 trigger wheel it would be appreciated a lot.

Thanks, that's very helpful

Use the base map settings. Change the trigger type to Toyota 2JZ VVTi

Boom! Instant 2JZ swap!

Im using the Flyin Miata 36-2 wheel with the same settings but it gives me the P1300 and P1302 error. For the home signal I'm using the NA6 CAS with the Yoshifab wheel (https://yoshifab.com/store/high-reso...gger-disk.html). Is there any other setting besides the instant 2jz swap?

It is looking for a 2+1 home signal - the 3 pulses from the cam pulley. Replace the yoshifab wheel with one that has 3 holes? Assuming you have an NA6 so jsut using the NB cam sensor is not an option

Its a 1.8. Im running the NA6 CAS since its optical instead of a magnet. I'll try it and report back.

I still haven't got my wiring run, but I installed an NB cam pulley and valve cover with sensor - but I am still running the CAS on the back because lazy. Since optical, maybe try and cover the holes? Cover with some vinyl sheet and poke out 3 holes and see if that works?

Has anyone with a 36-2 crank wheel and an NB Cam gear + Sensor tried setting up the trigger system as a "Generic Missing Tooth, Single Tooth Home"?

I'm trying to figure out how the 1JZ trigger setup works if the cam patterns are different. Both have 3 teeth, but an NB has 2 groups of teeth 180° apart and a 1J has 3 teeth evenly spaced 90° apart.

Maybe the pattern doesn't matter?

It doesn't seem to matter. Works fine on mine with 36-2 on Toyota trigger settings.

Finally got my motor running. 2JZ VVTI settings work fine with mine as well; had to use 150° TDC angle to get the timing marks to work out properly for some reason.

FYI, if your cam sensor isn't working the car runs on 2 cylinders and sounds like a Harley.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am using the Supermiata 36-2 trigger wheel with a Fluidampr with a BP4W head/cams/cam gears
