getting your map from 2.1 to 2.7 is pretty gay. I had to convert my my to 2.5 then to 2.6 then to 2.7. Even then a bunch of shit got screwed in the conversion. BUT, you can copy and paste your entire fuel and timing map into whatever base map you get. You just need to be sure the table is set up correctly, the one I got from FM was only mapped up to 15psi not 29.

Doppel I think that ecu fiddling is a more of a reflection of personality vs ECU. I ran my hydra for 3 years but now on this fourth year I do fuck with it regularly because my interests now include tuning too. Hydra doesn't deserve your money. For what you could sell it for you could get a tune and good support from DIY and "set and forget". I think 2.7 is just an incremental release. The GUI still sucks, they just fixed some broken shit, and addirtional sensor trims are nothing revolutionary at all. Blah humbyg. |

As much as MS has revolutionized the tuning scene with an awesome product, how much I respect Jerry & crew at DIYAutotune...everyone I know with a MS is always fucking with it....making an adjust ment here and there constantly. I like the idea of plug, tune and forget about it...that's my preference and I don't want something that needs constant tweeks. So far the Hydra has been exactly that for the most part (other than having to replace the WB02 once and having a IAT sensor that likes to randomly stop working).

The Hydra 2.7 maps are way different, I've spent a ton of time setting them up. Just doing the 2.6 import feature will leave you far from a well running car. For that reason I'd say it's best to just get an upgraded map through me, either a new base map or I can import your tuned stuff like fuelling / timing / starting enrichments into my existing base map.
At this pont everything in 2.7 is better except for alternator control (NBs) and we're close to getting that sorted out. So it's been a few months since the last post... what is the current 2.7 release, and how are things looking for alternator control, boost control, cold starting, and hot-restarting? I saw one of the posts that says "auto-tuning" has been dropped, so what replaces it?

^ Alternator control has supposedly been worked out, but I can't verify as I'm on an NA alternator. Starting (cold and hot) is better than before. Auto tuning is an option you can buy, but I don't have it (and they now call it something else).

Yes, alternator control is good to go. Electronic boost control still needs work. We're now working on Flex Fuel as well. Starting is in the hands of the calibrator to get the curves correct- the firmware is good. The new style of "autotune" is wideband long-term trim, which is a 32x32 onboard table that stores LTT trims. It is optional for those who upgrade from older units. Without it you still have the same WB-STT that you had before.

So what's the alternator voltage now? I know that there have been problems getting it to the proper 13.5 volts; I've heard that the 2.7 firmware was stuck at 12.5 (not enough to charge the battery) while my 2.6 is stuck around 14.5 (blows out headlights faster than normal).

The default alternator voltage in the base maps is now 14.4v, and the user is free to alter it as necessary. The coding is now holding it stable at whatever voltage you put in.

Hi Fred, unfortunately no. We're so awesomely busy right now that EBC work is a bit down the totem pole. However, once we do have a resolution I"ll email all my 2.7 owners with the info. Thanks again.

I received my 2.7 upgrade in the last few months and finally got my car out of hibernation last weekend. First impressions are very positive:
Now, once the EBC is ready for prime time, I'll be a happy camper. |
