Default '00 factory oil pressure sensor = useless

So when I replaced the clutch slave I found my oil pressure sensor signal was not connected and had not been for some time now - yet the dash gauge shows normal. I knew it was a dumb gauge but didn't realize the sensor was usless too ? I would expect an oil pressure light at the least ? No warnings whatsover - time to replace that with a real gauge.

will the 00 gauge work with the "true" NA senders?

You can mod the gauge with a couple resistors and then swap in a VDO sending unit. The gauge is still semi slow but it's fast enough that you can watch the oil pressure change with RPM while you sit there and rev it. A very worth while mod, it'll cost around $35 for the VDO sending unit and 2 cents for the resistors.
You can find the howto on m.net by searching for OPG mod in the NB forum.
