Same here, besides the fact I had a few dsm's and colts (one turbo) that I just beat around in.

Parents cars were and are a 99 suzuki esteem (first 100mph ticket ) and a 98 rwd mazda mpv.

Thats it? Some punk *** kid here in KC wanted a mustang for his 16th birthday. His dad took him to the ford dealership to check em out.

He picked out a base model automatic 2007 V6. His dad was like, "no. no way. If you're gonna get a mustang, might as well get the top model."

Needless to say, they walked away with a GT500 for a 15 year old kid who couldn't drive a five speed. ****** people. Eight months later the retard still can't drive it. I beat the car badly in my Speed6.

My first car was a '66 Dodge Dart with a slant six, which I got in 1996. I still have it.

74 Camaro with a 71 LT-1 Corvette motor. It was partially wrecked and I had to rebuild it. Circa 1985, $400 bucks.

I've driven around in my parents 92 Deville, and their 2004 Grand Am. I didn't have the time or money to fix cars when I was in high school and in college I got a decent job to afford my LE.

1966 VW Beetle. 53HP and a top speed of 55 mph. My dad loved me enough to buy me a car that I couldn't go fast enough to die in.

90' Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL

I turned 18 and I guess it was a grad gift. Had 165k on the clock, 2 rebuilt trannies, an electrical fire @ 120k and has made like 3 round trips across the country. What a beater. I bought a cherry bomb for it and it was freaking loud. Fun taking it to an AutoX or 2. I'm sure people laughed but hell, I was trying to have fun and learn how to drive the car better. I had no real money back then to keep the car running at which it died 3,5oo miles later. Jonied the service and bought my 97 Miata.

In short, it seems you're (the OP) in good company here. Nothing to feel jealous of. Life's a bitch for most of us. Especially when you're a teenager. For some of us it's still a bitch....

I started out with a boring car too. I don't think kids should get the sports car of their dream right at 16. Its just asking for trouble.

1992 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale (Was my dads, I got it when I turned 16. Now sold)
1994 Mazda Miata (Current. I bought this when I was 17)
1990 Honda Civic DX (ZC swap project that I bought off a friend mid project, never finished it, parted it out.)
1991 Nissan Sentra (Bought it, fixed it, sold it a few weeks later)
1993 Ford Probe GT (Daily drove it for a while, sold it)
1986 Mazda RX7 (Bought as a non runner, now I am selling it as a non runner..)
1988 Mazda RX7 (Current. Selling it now..)
2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (Current daily driver)

First car was a '85 Olds Calais Supreme...that I got from my great grandmother because she got her license revoked (possibly was just as dangerous as those kids who got fast cars for their first car). The Olds was 20 years old when I got it and only had 45K miles. Then I broke an engine mount after a year of driving stupid. Now I have the miata.

FWIW, I know we all would have loved to have our dream car as our first car. Luckily our parents couldn't/wouldn't buy us them. Driving an Oldsmobile that shook like an earthquake at any speed above 30mph made me appreciate the miata I paid myself for that much more.
