Anyone use these?

I'm trying to find a decent one that doesn't sacrifice quality for price (I know I know).

These are on my radar.




Any suggestions??

 

I've used a couple consumer-level slide scanners and have not been impressed with either of them, but the most recent one was probably 5 years ago so maybe they are better now. The issues I had with the scanners I tried was with light levels...I could never get the saturation to a place that satisfied me, and no amount of 'shopping the image made it right to my eye. I always bite the bullet and pay for a pro scan.

 

I wanted to update this thread for anyone else looking for one of these scanners. So long as your not looking for print quality scans, this scanner is pretty good.

It's the Wolverine F2D off Amazon for $99. Takes about 1 minute to load, scan, and unload the 4 slide strip. I've tested it on about 50 slides so far and overall I'm happy with the quality, considering the age of course. Now I have another 5000 or so to go.

Here's a look at the machine and a few examples of the scan quality. If the picture is out of focus, the machine still scans the picture out of focus. These photos either have little or no post processing.

 

I used a Canon flatbed 8600f with transparency adapter ($90 newegg) to scan 150 b/w negatives and it did a phenomenal job. Far better than the Pacific Image scanner I had- which looked similar to the unit you have. Best thing about the Canon was that I could lay down 8-10 images at a time.
