40 gig PS3

I'm new to the next gen consoles, so I'm a bit confused about them. What does the 40 gig mean? Is it 40 gigs for downloaded game storage, or is it some BS where you have to have 60 gigs to play certain games? Is the extra 20 worth $100? I don't care about backward compatibility or a few less USB ports.

For those of you who have them, how long do the batteries in the controllers last? Does the wireless internet work well? I'm really looking forward to online play, but my router isn't the strongest.

Is there any chance the price will drop again after x-mas? I really want it now, but I can wait.

dunno about the rest, but as for controllers, i just bought some rechargeable batteries for my wii controllers and always keep some charged when it runs out, better than buying the controller recharging stands i think

1. yes, it's for storing downloaded games and movies. no, 20gb extra is not necessary.
2. a long time.
3. yes
4.dunno, prolly not.

If you want to play PS2 games you need to get the 60 before its gone. (what i am debating right now, but i dont have any PS2 games and I am not sure if I care)

Other than that get it, and buy an external later if needed.

Oh note that you get less USB ports with the 40 and no card reader. For me, $100 is worth the extra 20-40 gigs, card readers and usb ports.

I had an XBox360 with a 20gig hd, then it died and I got a 120gig Elite. I have overrun 20gb quickly with XBox arcade games (like 6 of them) and massive amounts of downloadable content for Forza2 and PGR3. It's fast and easy to suck up memory with content alone, I'm glad I got a 120gb drive now. I'll be waiting until Sony pulls it's head out of it's ass and drops the larger PS3 to a much more reasonable price point.

Miatamaniac92 11-07-2007 10:48 AM

What is the card reader for?

Chris

Loki047 11-07-2007 10:48 AM

part for part the PS3 is much cheaper than the Xbox, PS3 just didnt come out with all the different models yet, but i bet we will see em.

card reader is for stickin your digital camera memory stick into. or to transfer files to and fro without a network.

the wireless controllers last long time. plus you can plug in the USB and play and charge and stuff.

So the bigger PS3's wont be backwards compatible i was under the impression that all would be backwards compatible.

From what I read the 40 gig is the only one that can't play PS2 games. I already have a PS2, so I don't need it. As for the card readers, I will only use it to play games, so I don't need those.

So 40 gigs will fill up quick? Can I connect a regular external HD from a pc for extra storage? I highly doubt I will download extra stuff, but who knows. It looks like I only need the 40 gig. I still have alot of reading to do.

Loki047 11-07-2007 03:15 PM

Each demo is about a gig, but i just d/l and delete them when your done.

yes, yes you can connect anything USB you want. you can also connect to a media server.

miataspeed1point6 11-07-2007 03:41 PM

Sweet, looks like the 40 gig will be just fine for me. Think I should buy one now? $400 seems about as low as they will go for at least a while (GT5 isn't due until 08). If I remember the first X-box dropped $100 after x-mas though didn't it?

Gran Turismo 5 is the only reason I'm buying one at the moment. I haven't had a chance to reveiw any of the other games. Has there been an official answer if you will have to buy the cars and tracks individually? I can't find a real answer.

grippgoat 11-07-2007 03:43 PM

Get an XBox 360. Then there will actually be games to play.

Heads up

neogenesis2004 11-07-2007 04:01 PM

the ps3 hdd is user upgradeable I believe. Just buy a huge ass hdd on newegg?

miataspeed1point6 11-07-2007 04:03 PM

PS3 will have games in time, they just got off to a really bad start.

I have heard alot of people saying the 40 gigs are coming back. The only reason I doubt the claims is because they use the same drive and main chip. If it doesn't work, I can just take it back.

here's an intelligent comment from that site:
"stupid belgians probably put waffles in the disc slot amirite"
