Since I'm still waiting for my head to show up from BogusSVO, some of the guys and I at the shop decided to see what this could potentially look like.

I have an irrational desire to own something big-block powered someday.

Looks totally workable. Weekend project. Do it.

Is that all stock 8100 stuff?

turbofan 01-24-2013 06:46 PM

Not on topic:

I see the front end and front fenders of your car and suddenly have the urge to sell everything and buy the cleanest titanium gray Mazdaspeed I can find. So clean. Factory paint. Clean front end, sortof aggressive... just... right.

These are parts from a side business my father does. Aftermarket goodies for 8.1 motors.

Vortec 8100 8.1L / 496 Chevy GM Performance Parts - 496ci Performance Marine - Raylar Big Power

I wish I'd had tried to sit one of our 600" DART blocks in there while I had the motor out.

That looks like it could totally work. Just need to cut back the frame rails a bit and replace them with tube to make room for the exhaust and you are ready to roll. A big block makes anything awesome.

Miater 01-24-2013 08:16 PM

Holy half ton of torq batman!

Thats exactly what I'm doing. They can be had with around 40K for low teens.

Also, please for fucks sake if nobody ever did this to a MSM that would be great.

.....so ridiculous and pointless

...and yet giving me the weirdest boner:laugh:

You kidding me? There's a red one here with 36k miles for under $11k. Too bad it's red.

How much bigger is this monster over the LSx's?

BogusSVO 01-25-2013 09:38 PM

I think you would have to cut the hood to make it fit!

I'm guessing you're referring to the external dimensions? I'm not exactly sure but could get you measurements if you want. As the heads and intake combination sitting there, there is maybe 2" between the exhaust ports to the frame.

This was all done just for fun. Of course anything is possible, but it would definitely require more work that just an LS swap.

Zabac 01-25-2013 10:04 PM

No need for measurements, I am dead set on my LS1. Just curious really.
Seems a lot bigger just sitting there.

I agree on your behalf. This isn't even worth considering unless you had access to unlimited shop/fabricator time. LS has soo much more going for it. There's no subframe, exhaust, accessory drive, moving radiator, electronics, intake, etc for this engine in a miata.

TurboTim 01-26-2013 05:52 PM

Holy runner length batman. I like that intake manifold, damn torque monster. I see from your site that's your manifold, perfect for boats. Nice.

miata2fast 01-27-2013 06:36 PM

How are you going to fit the 2.25" primary headers? :dunno:

GeneSplicer 01-27-2013 07:30 PM

Replace frame rails with exhaust :) somehow, I don't think you'll have an issue overcoming aero deficiencies with that squatch...
