Not on topic:
I see the front end and front fenders of your car and suddenly have the urge to sell everything and buy the cleanest titanium gray Mazdaspeed I can find. So clean. Factory paint. Clean front end, sortof aggressive... just... right.

These are parts from a side business my father does. Aftermarket goodies for 8.1 motors.
Vortec 8100 8.1L / 496 Chevy GM Performance Parts - 496ci Performance Marine - Raylar Big Power
I wish I'd had tried to sit one of our 600" DART blocks in there while I had the motor out.

That looks like it could totally work. Just need to cut back the frame rails a bit and replace them with tube to make room for the exhaust and you are ready to roll. A big block makes anything awesome.
Also, please for ***** sake if nobody ever did this to a MSM that would be great.

You kidding me? There's a red one here with 36k miles for under $11k. Too bad it's red.

I'm guessing you're referring to the external dimensions? I'm not exactly sure but could get you measurements if you want. As the heads and intake combination sitting there, there is maybe 2" between the exhaust ports to the frame.
This was all done just for fun. Of course anything is possible, but it would definitely require more work that just an LS swap.

I agree on your behalf. This isn't even worth considering unless you had access to unlimited shop/fabricator time. LS has soo much more going for it. There's no subframe, exhaust, accessory drive, moving radiator, electronics, intake, etc for this engine in a miata.

somehow, I don't think you'll have an issue overcoming aero deficiencies with that squatch...
