Interesting fact. It's relatively common in Air Force fighter/flight test squadrons to have an old shot-out GAU-8 barrel in the squadron bar for alcohol delivery purposes. It's mounted at a slight angle on a stand and, when it's time is appropriate, shots are poured in the back and "received" via the business end.

My friend's dad is a retired A10 pilot. He showed me spent brass from the 30 and its impressive. I'll dig up a pic of me holding it.

These things might not be a 40 or 105, but when you consider their size and the rate of fire its pretty awesome.

Not sure if re-post, but regardless I think this encompasses everything that MTnet stands for.

It really is weird to read about the 105mm or the 40mm on the AC-130, when you are playing Zombie Gunship.

*****.

Spa in a 1965 911 at some sort of vintage event. This is nuts. Power on, it oversteers. Lift, it oversteers. Brake, it oversteers.

Guy passes on the inside, on the outside, and on the curbing. Eau Rouge and Blanchimont pegged my pucker meter.

biggest problem I see with a combined steam/ICE cycle is water in the crankcase, needing lots of oil/water separation. But hell we ran trains on steam for years and they did fine.

My favorite Turbine story is the Mig 25 Foxbat, whose engines are so powerful, at high speeds they will overwhelm the engines fuel pumps and run away.

Fun fact:

The combination of the GAU-8/A's extremely high rate of fire (initially 70 rounds per second, later 65 rounds per second) and large cartridge size and propellant load (153g of Propulsif XPR83) means that such a large volume of exhaust gas is generated by the gun that the first generation A-10 commonly suffered engine flameouts when firing the gun at certain angles of attack. In the end, this problem was solved not by aerodynamic means, but by simply slaving the engine igniters to the gun so that, in the event of a flameout, the engine would automatically re-light once the gun stopped firing and oxygen was once again available to support combustion.

Fun fact #2. The so-called "brass" section of the PGU-13 (HEI) and PGU-14 (armor-piercing) cartridges fired by the A-10 is actually aluminum.

And here is a man on a horse:

True story:

While searching Google Images for something pony-related to edit into Olderguy's last post (which contained no image), I came across a product called "Pierced Eyeglasses." It's quite simple- you embed the bridge into your face, and then the lenses attach to it with magnets. You can even flip them up simply by rotating the piece of metal which is passing through your head:

Also, Amazon is apparently trying to confuse me. When I go to view my orders, I have a seperate option to view my "Digital Orders."

As opposed to all of the various analog orders that I've placed with Amazon since late 1995?

Astigmatism

Had I been an exceptional athlete, above average academically, etc. I could of overcame the detriment, however I am below average athletically and just above average academically. I could of pursued it, but after discussing it with my commander, I would of most likely ended up in a 2nd choice field.
