No shit. I used to ride that station every day, and had a great view of it* from my apartment.
* = inasmuch as one can have a great view of a railyard.
I'd posted a random thought on FB last night, wondering why Penn Station wasn't called Penn Terminal. A former co-worker from NYC, who is now the VP of Tech at WABC, chimed in on the conversation.

This morning, he texted me "Hoboken is ALSO a terminal, BTW, which means the train is supposed to stop when it gets there."

And, of course, my old station WPIX incorrectly ID'd the train as a PATH train in their initial reporting. PATH trains run in tunnels and use the lower level of Hoboken, NJTrans runs on the surface and uses the upper level. Those photos were clearly shot above-ground.

This moderately funny cat .GIF is too large for me to embed.

On another note-

At my TV station (WGN) in the 9am block of the morning news, just after the initial break about Hoboken with pictures of the carnage, we went straight into a studio piece where a guy was showing off a bunch of high-end model trains, had a complete model train layout set up for camera, and was talking about some upcoming model train convention which is apparently the world's largest.

Not even a commercial in between. They literally just segued from "massive train wreck with fatalities" straight to "guy playing with model trains."

I can't make this shit up...

My wife put some Luke Bryan CDs in the Amazon cart. My first reaction was: "Who is Luke Bryan?"
Glad to see that was the correct reaction.

Home Alone made $285,761,243 gross. Home Alone 2 made $173,585,516. Is that because moviegoers prefer younger boys?

You can't argue with stupid people. Well, you can. But it's fruitless.

And Ghostbusters III (2016) has already made more lifetime gross than Ghostbusters II and has only been out since July.

$127,448,192 vs. $112,494,738

Im willing to bet Bill Murrary didnt get paid 14 million for GB1. That would have been nearly half the entire budget...

True, but he also didn't sell military secrets to Germany during WWII, and you can see where that got us...

To be fair, the inflation-adjusted USA gross for GB2 is $218m in 2016 numbers, but it also wasn't a great movie. I don't blame Bill Murray for that, it's just a fact.

But this thread finally made me watch the new film and, you know what? It was a good movie. It hit all the right nostalgia notes for a reboot of a silly, irreverent comedy without going over the top, the cameos were perfect (I like to imagine that Harold Ramis appeared as a ghost somewhere in the background, and noticed after the fact his son's inclusion in the film), and at no time did I feel like I was being shouted at "Look, it's an all-female cast!"

Except in one regard- the treatment of the Chris Hemsworth character, Kevin. Now, I get the beefcake joke. And I even found it amusing. But try to imagine if this were the original (male) cast, who hired a beautiful but incompetent female secretary and constantly made jokes about her, lusted after her, and made it clear that her sole function in the office was to act as eye-candy. The SJW scene would have gone prompt-critical (physics joke, look it up) and demanded that Columbia Pictures be burnt to the ground and the writers tried for War Crimes.

So it's an interesting look at the double-standard which has evolved.

And of course I now have a permanent boner for Kate McKinnon. So there's that.

It's landscaping season for me. Just ripped all the old foliage out of the front flowerbed, tilled in 1300lbs of composted cow manure, and started sticking tropical plants in the ground. Many more plants to go, but here's a progress shot:

Dear God, I wish I could be doing that right now.

Yesterday, I re-did all of the drain plumbing under the kitchen sink in the new apartment. The drains in this building are rather slow, with the result that the sink was backing up into the dishwasher as it drained. Given that I never use the dishwasher, this resulted in the level of grey water in it rising to the threshold of the door after about a week, and then spilling out onto the floor.

So I installed an above-counter air gap in the line (surprised this wasn't done initially, but then everything here is clearly bottom-dollar), and also disassembled all the drain pipes, cleaned them out, and re-installed with new O-rings and seals, as they were leaking in several places.

Today, I'd planned on installing some closet shelving, but instead I can barely stand upright, and there's no way in hell I'm bending over. The degree of pain I am feeling right now in my lower back is difficult to describe- putting on socks makes it feel like I'm being stabbed, and even the half-mile walk to the local Walgreens was torture.

Tried Icy-Hot with absolutely zero effect, took several Ibuprofin, and I'm sitting here now with a TENS device glued to my backside, running pulses of electricity through me. Interesting sensation, presently on the first cycle so too early to determine if it's accomplishing anything useful.

Serious time:

What do you guys recon this parking space is worth?

I offered $200/mo, the owner came back with $300, came down to $250 after I told him he was nuts, and I haven't responded yet. It's 2 cars deep, but the building's HVAC glycol system drips onto the back half, so that's essentially useless. It's close to the stairwell, but doesn't offer any place to store a bicycle, toolbox, etc.

I know exactly how you feel. Now imagine it being that way for 3 months. That is why I was desperate for them to operate.

My son was invited to a themed B-day party. the premise it that it is sometime in the middle ages (very non-specific), and the baron is supposed to marry this Lady in an arranged marriage. But the Baron loves another, etc. There is a murder, and like a real life game of Clue, the participants are supposed to figure it out. My son was assigned the character of the Baron, who is described as filthy rich and very powerful. My wife then sewed a costume for him. I present Baron Bartholemew:

When taking the pic, I told my son to look with distain on the poor peasants he will encounter. I think he nailed it.

^That's pretty cool.

Joe, take off the shelf magnesium vitamin supplements, 750mg a day for a couple of days and it will release on its own. Unless you have actually damaged something.

Can the drip be relocated with say, a piece of twine, or something?
