I love that video. When they all realize what's gone wrong... Having been in the water when a 40 ft dead whale washed ashore, I really cannot convey how catastrophically bad dead whale smells.

We just had one modem (Telebit T3000, IIRC), but our university at least let us use RIP to advertise the /28 network up to them. SLIP ran on a 286 running ka9q NOS, we also had a Sun 3/60, NCD X Terminal, and a couple 386s running Linux.

Only one modem?

Falesityhoodness. They were only a quarter-thousand bucks at that time.

Since this is the random photos thread, I'm going to start a feed which I recently came across from my past.

This one is dead by suicide a few years ago, despite having become a highly successful physician. We only made it to 3rd base in high school. Kind of a bummer, that.

I've only ever used those machines from the other side of the glass. My very first job was at a radio station when I was 16, and aside from a few part-time jobs while in college, I've done nothing but broadcasting ever since.

In terms of access to big, scary machines, this was actually advantageous. Although tubes are nearly extinct, radio & TV transmitters are still giant, powerful machines that are impressive to work on.

On an unrelated note (but vaguely related to Roda's post), sponsored content continues to surprise me with its randomness. Like this one. Is ball-shaving a sufficiently common practice that the development of a special tool for it is justified?

(I mean, ball-shaving was a throwaway gag in Austin Powers, for crying out loud.)

Show of hands, who here shaves their *****? And if so, are you dissatisfied with the tool you presently use for this task?

This is what guards are for right?

I suppose some go for the baby smooth approach and I would assume a razor would be the correct tool of choice. Maybe waxing, gosh I can't imagine.

Having tried going smooth, i would suggest leaving it to the professionals. Genitalia models and what not. Anything less than 1/4" is ITCHY AS HELL.

Unrelated sign at work. I think this means required.

Provided that you have eye protection, I'd tend to agree.

Hopefully it all works out tomorrow.

Mmmm, now I'm thinking of Salma Hayek in the Slave Girl costume ...
"STOP IT - YOU'RE AT WORK!" says the angel on my left shoulder.
"TOO LATE!" says the devil on my right shoulder, lying almost passed out with a big grin on his face.

I was quite concerned at first... I'm in a Harbor Freight and the guy in the pic has two machetes and he doesn't speak a word of English. Why would you need TWO machetes??? Turns out he was returning one. They're on sale now and he saved three dollars and some change. The cashier couldn't just give him the savings. He had to return and repurchase. When she asked for his address. He didn't say anything. He just stood there. Then she asked where he lived. He handed her a piece of paper with his information on it. She pumped it into the register and gave him his cash.

Amazon is the worst for that. A few years ago I purchased one of the larger two seat powerwheels from Amazon, free returns. Soon after it went on a silly sale for black friday. They required that I ship the very large, very heavy item back to them, minus the battery (??!?), so extra bonus for me.

I'm noticing now that you can return things to Kohls, the 'free returns' is no longer giving me a free UPS label. I don't want to drive to Kohls damnit.

Speaking of devils and angels and salma hayek's nearly naked body:

Fun fact, at about 16 seconds in, when Linda and Chris walk up to Jay and Silent Bob... there's a funny looking asian dude on the right of the screen. His name is Ming Chen and he had a fansite dedicated to Kevin Smith's work with View Askew Productions. Apparently it was so good, Smith decided to have him do the VA website for pay. Now he's all reality tv host and does all Smith's online work.

He was a nerd like me back in the mid 90s and we were friends on IRC when he was at UMich and I was at Cal Poly. We hung out a few times but I haven't talked to him much in a very long time.

But most importantly: Salma.

This sounds horrible. But I'm gonna have to say this is in my top 5 favorite pies. It's to bad each one costs $14.
