That's the corner at the end of the "back-straight" at mid-ohio sports car course. It's a 3000 foot straight (a little over a half mile) - fast track bikes can eclipse 205mph on that straight. That nissan was probably doing deep into 150 or 160 when the brakes went out on it. There's a reason they keep an ambulance on standby right there - I've gotten a free ride in it before.

That corner looks so familiar because I've dropped the motorcycle twice there, both crashes probably between 90 and 110mph.

It's f()cking amazing that he walked away from that crash with just a bump on the head - holy crap.

 That was a crazy long straight. Stop crashing there!

Tell me again how useless a truck is at auto-x?

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5027/5...7ee4be8a_z.jpg

I've known of more than one pickup truck with a semi-competent driver ------- owning spec'd CRX's, S2k's, and Miatas at auto-x on factory radials.. :D

Godless Commie 07-16-2012 02:37 PM

And the point is?

What is the use of driving a truck unless you have a few sacks of onions waiting to be hauled to the market?
Or manure, or cinder blocks, or pigs, or... you get the picture..

I really do not understand driving a truck and just hauling "air" all over the place.

$20 at Lowes or Home Depot. How much more do you pay for gas riding a truck each week?

About the same as I would for a car. I get 27~ from my Frontier and I've had 600lbs in the bed multiple times.

Small trucks = serious win. I use my bed all the time and can still park it like a small sedan on the tiny streets around here.

Not to mention, 5spd + ka24de = fun

Less than It costs me to DD the Z28. If I get over 16mpg Im pretty happy. Truck gets maybe 18mpg and like 9 when Im pulling the camper.

Its a dodge and I dont think it could have been equipped to get worse gas mileage without getting the SRT10. Its got the bigger engine (Hemi), bigger wheels (20") with bigger tires (275/60/20 vs 55s), shorter gears (3.92 optio) 4x4, 4 door.

Grand Crapster averages 11mpg city and something like 14mpg highway. :jerkit: That's why I've got a Protege. Need to see the Protege and buy a miserable Piece of crap TDI VW and start collecting cooking oil . . . . I've thought about a 4bt swap in the ZJ more than once.... Know where I could get the motor basically for free..

I have my car listed for sale on several websites, including clubroadster.net. This morning, I received this PM:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1342535015

Questions abound.

Don't most adults have the list of state abbreviations memorized?
Even if you forgot one, wouldn't you try Googling it?
If he can't figure out how to Google it, how is the zip code going to help him?
Does he have the full nationwide list of zip codes memorized?

And perhaps most importantly --

How should I respond to his inquiry? I'm taking suggestions.

Braineack 07-17-2012 10:34 AM

When selling I have found it easiest to just nod, smile, tell the truth, and let it go to whomever has the money...personal judgements aside.

mgeoffriau 07-17-2012 11:06 AM

See, Damon's got it. I'm struggling between my natural desire to respond in a snarky manner, and my realization that I don't have to respect or even like the guy that buys my car -- I only have to take his cash.

It's easier to search the zipcode and find a close enough distance between 2 locations...ya know in case you wanna get a hotel for the butt banging when you arrange a meeting. :makeout:

A state to state distance search can vary on average of 300 miles. Zip code to zip code is usually within 10 miles.

Your analysis is spot-on, except for the fact that I listed my city and state in the post. In fact, the state is not mentioned anywhere without the city.

I drove to Dallas and back (9 hours) on Friday to pick these up. Bill Fitzmaurice Titan 48s. They BARELY fit in the back of the truck. It was so close, that I had to remove the corner protectors. Less than 1/4" of clearance to get them into the bed.

These things are crazy. I can't turn them up past a few volts without fear of having the cops called. Gonna take em out to the country and turn them up sometime this week.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1342592660

For those of you who are unfamiliar with horn-loaded enclosures... A horn couples the driver to the atmosphere much better than a sealed or ported enclosure can. This single 15" folded horn design occupies as much space as a typical dual 18" ported enclosure, but will play at higher volume levels with less harmonic distortion. The extra sensitivity comes at a price though. Folded horns don't have a very flat frequency response, so EQ is required for them to sound good. They also must have a steep highpass filter at the bottom of their effective frequency response, moreso than a typical ported enclosure.

I was going to build some of these, but found them for sale. Next, I'm going to build some Omnitops.

nitrodann 07-18-2012 04:30 AM

Are they basically a bandpass design?

Dann
