I feel like embarrassing a friend of mine tonight.
This is Patrick: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...b07fb86532.png Patrick is an attorney, formerly with the firm of Sidley Austin in NYC, and now house counsel for Mitsubishi Electric in LA. Patrick is also a father, husband, and rainbow-pegasus-unicorn. That there is nightmare fuel, friends. |
Put your headphones on and listen.
Damn. Just damn. |
Like that doesnt even seem like it was recorded live on stage man. Thats amazing.

^What power! Really glad you shared.

Episode 1 of "Sanayi Savaslari" aired today.
Decent responses so far. Here's the ful episode. No subtitles, no translation at this point. |
I NEED ENGLISH (or Spanish, or even German, if they're simple enough) SUBTITLES!

It just aired today...
Subtitled/translated versions will be out soon. |

I like this. Not too sure about the belt surviving any meaningful torque even with that huge pulley, and that idler bearing is not going to be happy, but still a clever idea.

Is that an alternator or something?

Some of those old Root-type blowers you see poking through the hoods of Camaros easily pulled 75-100 HP on the shaft, and that motor doesn't looks big enough to be producing / consuming anywhere near that. |
How much power do you think that motor can produce Joe?

Polyphase AC motors from Curtis which appear outwardly similar are rated in the neighborhood of 60-90 HP (peak) when running at max rated power (generally up to 144v at up to 500-600A.) |
Well the warp 9 motors are about the same size.

Still, the motor in the photo is clearly a brushless 3-phase AC motor. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3ddbbd5607.png https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e647c309e6.jpg |
I'm pretty sure the main function of that motor is providing low rpm torque to help the engine climb to its powerband..
I struggle to see any other explanation for the cog belt setup. That belt would be unpleasant under load at high rpm. Or, I could be wrong. Edit before I am publicly humiliated: I guess I am wrong. Timing belts are cog belts and they do just fine at all revs with valvetrain load. And shock. And rapid acceleration. So there. |

It could be brushless DC. But i don't know much about those, i think some have 3 leads for the 3 / 6 commutators. |

Why is it using such thick gauge wire? An AC 3 phase motor of that size would typically be no greater than 5hp. It's probably drawing 5 FLA. These motors typically ouput a low torque at a slow shaft speed, so that seems pretty useless.

It's hard to judge the size of that motor given the context, but it looks like it might be a Curtis AC50. Here's the spec sheet for that motor: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...05a4965e02.png It makes a respectable amount of torque at 0 RPM, and delivers peak HP at what is probably the point where the engine is running out of airflow. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...203663b073.png |
I see. What a unique application.
I'd assume just hook a couple of them to the drivetrain. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...cd9b7b419b.jpg |

what am I focusing on? the unnecessary splitter support?
|
???
I'm pretty sure splitter supports have been 'cool' for a while. |
In unrelated news, I usually go to a nearby pastry shop for breakfast.
And, I share my food with the less fortunate. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c4331b20d.jpeg |
