I washed my fingers up against the dirty back end of this sink at the Longhorn steakhouse. I immediately thought of your rant and agreed with you about the level of peave that is generated by this.

Great big sink, little bitty faucet.

Why do people bother posting photos like this in CL ads? At most I suppose it might demonstrate that the car exists, and maybe that it runs since it presumably reached that gas station under its own power, but I'm guessing that most prospective buyers will verify those two pieces of information before purchasing anyway, so it's really not helping at all, is it?

To be fair, that's a little on the high side. Look at the address on the sign: East 61st, which is one of the pricier neighborhoods. And it's an enclosed garage.

In most of Manhattan, you can find a good parking spot for around $400 a month if you sign an annual lease.

Also, that is for a direct-access parking space (one which you can just walk up to and get in your car at any time), whereas outdoor storage parking is more common for residents, where they stick your car in what is essentially a filing cabinet. When you want to use it, you have to call ahead about an hour in advance so that they can extract it for you and have it ready when you arrive. These cost even less:

(It's obviously somewhat of a dance to get at the uppermost car in the back row.)

If you don't actually need to have the car in Manhattan proper, you can find direct-access parking just over either river, in Jersey or Queens, for well under $300. And it's only about a 15-20 minute train ride to get to either side, so it's not like it's all that far away. At my apartment in Hoboken, direct-access spaces in a covered garage are only $270.

$60-70 for bicycle parking is pretty average. However, NYC law also stipulates that any commercial building which has a freight elevator must offer free indoor bicycle parking for anyone who is employed in that building. This isn't the most convenient thing in the world (freight elevators are both slow and busy in the morning when people are arriving to work), but it's an option if you don't want to park the bike outside.
