Default Android Crew: ITT we may assemble and discuss various, assorted topics

I'm thinking about removing TouchWiz from my GS3 and switching to pure ICS. Has anyone done this and retained full functionality? I've read there are some problems with the camera and gallery functioning. I may be the only person who's said this online, but I kind of miss Sense now that I'm on Touchwiz.

"Pure ICS" ie a plain jane Android ROM? Never done that, I ran CM7 on my last phone for quite a while.

Do they have ROM's yet for the GS3? That's fast if they do.

Hmm. Looks like CM9 has been released for the GS3, but only the international GSM model, not the USA-specific model.

Yes, plain Android ICS, the way it should be. I'm still half way tempted to return this phone and get a Nexus just for the simplicity. However, I really like the 2GB of RAM, battery life, and huge screen on the GS3.
Thoughts on rooting and hardware warranty?

I didn't root and ROM my last phone until it was well past the warranty period, but I was pretty happy with the stock ROM. Just read a bunch of online guides and threads on it...if it seems like you can do it without much risk of bricking your phone, go for it. It can be undone if you have to take it in for warranty service.

Wouldn't bother with the Nexus. Radios suck, tons of unhappy customers.

Warranty is a big deal for me. I've had about 5 warrantied phones in 3-years and every time I trade them in the workers tell me the phones look new. My last phone quit because parts of the screen stopped working. This is why I switched from HTC to Samsung.

I have one now after having Androids. I hate this thing. Never had a phone this annoying. Every time I complain about it to other iphone users the excuse is "Oh yoou just need the 4S model not the 4 you have." Played with the 4S, nothing a good android phone can't do, minus Siri and she's annoying to. I loved my Nexus S, wife is using it now. Waiting for the next wave of greatness in the android market to replace this iphone with something that works and does what I tell it.

Heh, that's what my old phone was. Actually, I kept it. I'm running CM7.2 on it and using it as an MP3 player. Great phone, it lasted me over 2 years. Sold my wife's Incredible for $80 on CL.

I paid $125 for mine on eBay a year ago. Best accidental eBay purchase decision ever.

We upgraded when Verizon was running a special on the Rezound for $80 to lock in our unlimited data for the next 2 years. It's not quite top tier anymore (just a step below the GS3) but it's still a beast of a phone, with a fantastic screen. Should be getting ICS within the month.

It seems all the JB ROMs (and stock JB) are awful battery -----s. The battery life in my GS3 is pretty good. I e------d 4-hours and had 51% battery left, lol.
