Any cyclists here on Zwift?

With the current situation, I decided to cut back on my outdoor riding. Some of you know I race quite a bit. I train about 15hrs/300 miles a week most of the year.
For those of you that aren't familiar, Zwift is a game-ified version of virtual cycling. New smart trainers change their resistance in response to the virtual world you are pedaling through.
What makes Zwift unique is that is was largely the first cycling app to link riders together like sim racing for cars. So I can match legs with riders from all over the world in real time.
There are rides, races and structured workouts available.

I'm thinking about organizing some group rides (not races) for all our friends in the motorsports side of my life that also ride bikes. Any interest?

I've got Zwift, I'm a lot more casual than some riders here, but I'm having fun. I'm using Zwift to do group rides with family while having a videoconference call with them, it works surprisingly well.

Still having 3 to 6 feet of snow around here, will not be able to ride on clean roads until them have cleaned the winter sand from the roads. This should happen in May, but I don't think we will be allowed to go outside by then.

Doing group rides could be interesting with fellow miata drivers.

Been zwifting for maybe 2 years now, it's been harder to get on over the last year or so, but level 19 in game due to mostly the first year. It's easy to forget about it when there's wood to split

acedeuce802 04-06-2020 10:18 AM

Been hitting Zwift hard this year, although weather is nice now so I've been riding MTB outside enough that I won't be Zwifting for a while. I also don't feel like readjusting B-screw for the smaller cassette on the trainer, so I've just been doing ERG mode with training sessions. It doesn't shift nice, so I haven't been doing any free rides or races.

I started zwifting a little at the beginning of the year but didn't ride much as I was mostly running for training. With the shelter in place though I've been on a lot more.

What do you all use for fans? I was thinking a speed controlled fan would be fun, but my desk fan is working for now.

emilio700 04-06-2020 04:51 PM

I just use a small fan with three settings, maybe 10" diameter, set on lowest setting and aimed at my face. Quite comfy. I zwift in the shop where its been around 55° lately. Indoors where its warm, you need a lot more fan power.
Sweatband helps, towel of course.

I'm Zwifting, although you probably don't know me. I just bought Andrew Newmark's Purple ST4 car. It will be in So Cal when this hoopla is all over. Used to own LPI Racing.

I am going to attempt PRL full tomorrow (Thurs April 9th)
107mi/ 8100'. Probably start around 10 a.m PST.
You guys are welcome to jump in with me at any point and sit on. If I don't crack it should take me about five and a half hours with a few 2-4 minute breaks.

gesso 04-09-2020 01:30 AM

Oooof, PRL full looks rough. I'll see if I have time to try to hang on for a few miles between zoom calls and trying to be productive working from home

cal_len1 04-09-2020 09:17 AM

I'm typically a TrainerRoad guy, but I'm going to see what this Zwift thing is all about. Maybe I'll jump on towards the end if I can get done with my work soon enough.

Just did Road to Sky and then continued randomly up to 2h. This videogame is still fun! Legs are getting back in shape after 9 months doing nothing.

Missed the hop along with Emilio as I was working, but you guys gave me the kick to get out of my sofa!

Zwifter here for a few years. Last year I welded a copy of my 54cm Tarmac for use on my trainer cause I end up spending so much time on it, relatively speaking. My wife and kid(s) do it too. We can just barely fit all 3 wheel-on trainers in one room, but the kids can only do a mile or so before they get bored. Note for those with kids: cycleops 20-24" adapter works with kinetic road machine trainers.

Nice ride Emilio. I think I'm going to start the 'collect every badge' challenge. That PRL is one that I'm not looking forward to!

mt.net group ride? Max effort for most/recovery ride for emilio?

Satisaii 04-11-2020 10:48 AM

Just had my 2 year anniversary with Zwift. 9300 miles done in my garage, vs 120 on the road.

I have done the Full PRL albeit a little slower than Emilio. It took me just a hair over 6 hours I have attempted and failed on the Uber Pretzel. Might try again today since I took a rare day off yesterday... unless the lure of a good group ride changes my mind.

emilio700 04-11-2020 11:24 AM

I'll try to organize a group ride for Sunday the 12th. I'll pick a flatter route and keep it under 3 W/kg so you guys can sit on. I normally do three to four hours on Sunday.

Satisaii 04-11-2020 07:56 PM

Uber Pretzel done. Also got the 100kph badge on the radio tower decent. There were guys doing the vEverest thing and some doing the 1000km in 24 hours thing. Those make the PRL and Uber seem easy.

Now down 15 lbs since this whole "I can't go out and eat like I used to" thing started. If the beer supply would dry up I really would loose some weight.

emilio700 04-11-2020 10:45 PM

Yeah, I passed a bunch of people who vEveresting on the Alp today. They're doing it in one continuous ride 9 to as much as 20 hours. I took an entire week to do it :p

So what are we going to do tomorrow gents? Somebody can do a Meetup

I foolishly did the 25 laps of the volcano last night. It started getting pretty rough around lap 20, but I wasn't gonna give up at that point. And that means I'm fairly wrecked today, I definitely don't have the riding endurance that I used to...

emilio700 04-12-2020 07:21 PM

Did my first full race today. Totally sandbagging in C category. Averaged about 4.6w/kg (338w) for the final ~20 minute climb. This, after a monster week and pretty sore legs last night. Guessing I can hold around 4.9 w/g for 20 minutes with fresh legs which puts my FTP at around 4.65 w/kg.
Glad its a good number but bummed that puts me in the A category where I'll get my 57 year old ass kicked by guys half my age.Good problem to have I guess. Now to sandbag in a B race :D

doward 04-12-2020 09:45 PM

Im going to get DQd from C(2.5-3.1w/kg) soon. Hello B.

Did a 3R Crit Race tonight, hung onto the back of B the entire time, won the C class "Prime"(a sector sprint mid-lap), and won the pack sprint at the end by going early(~350m) and only 'needed' about a 8.5w/kg sprint, guys behind me at 10+
Finished at 3.1w/kg average to narrowly avoid the DQ and 37th overall of 150+ as a Cat C.

I've gotten really good at playing the draft and the terrain, or more specifically, how to maximize the videogame interaction with the simulated world. haha.

D.Howard ingame.

Edit: Strava says I PRd both the 300m and 200m finish sectors.
Edit Edit: I won Cat C. https://www.zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=509931
