5"10 210 lbs ,my weights crept up over the last 2 years, not enough exercise + gave up smoking, started eating!.

Congrats on quitting smoking, but you have to start doing something, even if it is just walking a couple extra miles a day.

Walking is great... when I used to bodybuild I would use walking instead of running. Running tends to put you in the muscle burning zone whereas walking primarily burns fat stores. It becomes a key factor when your BF% gets low.

Exactly. Running and weight lifting don't go side by side.

lift first to use up your glycogen stores and the cardio will be more aerobic. unless you're trying to turn into a hans/franz guy.

VRTSid 03-15-2007 04:07 PM

so you guys say walking is better to get started with then move to a more cardio activity to burn more?

y8s 03-15-2007 05:29 PM

I get the best results doing a 5 minute warm up, then heavy weights (6-10 reps to unable to lift), then like 20-30 minutes on the bike. Then within 2 hours a protein-heavy meal.

The last part is critical if you don't enjoy feeling like you were run over the next two days.
