So I have the chance to buy a 1999 Toyota Camry that has a 6 inch hole in the block.

It has 130k miles and I can get it for about 150$.

I can either sell it to a salvage yard and get pittance or I can keep it myself and swap the motor and drive it OR I can part it out as a parts car. Problem being, I live in an apartment complex.
Do any of you guys have any experience with this? What kind of returns could I get? If its an easy grand, I suspect I'll just park it in the garage where my Miata is.

 

Or you could tell me who is selling it and I can buy it.

Private party value (fair condition) is around (4 cyl)2200 - (6 cyl)3200.
Motor is about 800ish on CL. A little less for the 4 cylinder. = 600-800
With the used car market, subtract 200-600 depending on how fast you want to sell.

Probably worth it.

 

I've only parted Miatas, IMO if you can get a Miata for say $500-$750 (even a 1.6), you'll make some bread.
99 Camry (or anything) for $150 is a no brainer...

Depending on the overall condition of the car and pricing on used/jy engine's, I'd say you consider
swap in a motor/clean it/flip it...alot less work than parting imo

 

If you sell everything you can usually get 2k profit on a car like that. Then you can donate the frame to get a tax credit or you can sell the car to scrap yard for $200. It is very doable. Just make sure you have the funds to ship and sell the items. Also be prepared to deal with sellers and non-payment. Craigslist first then ebay is what I do. Good luck

Definitely just swap the motor and clean it up. I've parted bikes(easier to take apart) and it's still not fun. And I enjoy taking **** apart!

It's really the people that make it a pain. People will tell you how much they are going to pay and that they are on there way over, shouting for directions to your house and acting like you're the one jerking them around.

Selling a complete car means dealing with less ********.

 

No doubt, but I have had no trouble parting Miatas. That said, you are dealing with enthusiasts. Engine parts, body and suspension-it's all needed what with spec racing and all. 99 Camry? Not enough buyers for everything needed to part out.
