Anybody else planning on going to Miatas at the Gap?
 

I don't want to be the only diy turbo guy in a sea of wine and cheesers. It's not until July 27-29, but if you want a hotel close by, you have to make reservations this early. I was there last year and had fun, although it was also my first road trip without parents. My buddy that went with me last year is planning on driving his car this year, too (bimmer Z3).

I'll be durr. Assumin I feel like makin the 1/2hr drive. My last experience at the gap was not a good one.

I'll will be there with buddie of mine who also has a miata.

Damn, If we could get enough people from here together we should all meet up some place before hand and have like a little miataturbo.net reunion type deal. We should all rock miataturbo.net stickers.

Going to the Gap tomorrow on my way to Charleston, SC.

I've always wanted to go, I finally have vacation time as of May. Maybe this is the year to do it :)

I'll may go. There is a track day 2 weeks before that at mid-ohio and then I was planning on going to American Lemans / IRL racing at mid-ohio on the 20-21 so I don't know if the wife will let me be gone 3 weekends in a row. It would be nice to try meeting up with some people for the drive down.

I am going! Hopefully we will have a whole bunch of people from Texas this year. Last year was a blast!

There should be a "northern" group there too.... usually there's been at least of few of the locals making the trip down.

Did 3 years in a row... but I missed out on last year.....

I'm going, but I'm going August 3-5 with the Saturn group that I made plans with before my turbo'd SL got totalled.

Haha! I'd love to be there with all the other Miatas, but I already paid for the Aug. 3-5 weekend with them, and I don't think that I have enough at the moment to cover another weekend of lodging, plus planning for the gas and food. :( Pretty tight budget ATM.

its about two hours from me and I've never been. A group of us from a local car site (wncrides.com - western NC rides) are going april 13-14th I think...I'll prolly head down there then.

I wasn't planning on going, but looks like there will be a good turnout. Would be cool to meet some other turbo people.

So I'm in, would be leaving from the Atlanta area, anyone want to caravan up or meet someplace en route?

The site I posted earlier, www.gapmiatas.com has lodging recommendations in the forum. I'll probably be camping somewhere, since college student = no money.

I am all about some camping, but I don't think the S.O. could survive without her hairdryer.

Obviously I can find lodging individually, but thought maybe I could grab a room in the same fleabag motel as some other forum members.

Last year we camped somewhere in the Smokey Mtns Park. I wouldn't recommend it, due to the gravel sites (we didn't bring sleeping pads, our bad) and the millions of frogs making unbelievably loud obnoxious noises throughout the night. It was cheap though, like $10/night.

I, personally, stay in the next town over.
For 3 reasons:
Air conditioning
TV
Telephone
Food

The lodges up there are cool if you want to suffer. I prefer the creature comforts. There is a computer for Internet access. But you are there for the spectacular roads, so why not drive a little further?

I just sleep on someones floor. Last year some friends and i just slept on the floor of my buddies room at Topeka for like 20 bucks. Im so tired after the day that i fall right asleep on the hard floor lol.

Just wondering what's so great about the "gap" that people keep talking about.

318 turns in 11 miles or so they say... almost all banked beautifully, very tight. Living in East TN does have its perks, there are many roads like it around here but none as long and uninhabited. Tennessee also takes good care of its roads. It really is a fantastic road, although it is way too well known now, and it is infested by dumbasses and cops on nice weekends. Damn, if people from canada know about it...

What ya doing in Charleston? I live in Moncks Corner (about 20 miles away).

Yes, we are going to the Gap this year (will be our 9th MATG). That gives me almost 5 months to get Beast back together and running. Not sure how she'll stand up to the 6 hour trip but it should be fun. We go up with a group of about 10 cars from our club. We have 10 rooms reserved at the Microtel in Robinsville. If you see Beast or my wife's car (see below) drop by and say hi.

Oh, the powerlisters (mailing list) get together on Saturday night at the lodge. I'd be more than happy to meet up with you guys then.

I'll be going for the first time this year along with 2-4 other miata enthusiasts. I think we chose to camp out.

Just thought I'd bring this up again since my buddy and I reserved a room today at the Deal's Gap Motorcycle resort (www.dealsgap.com) as well as to remind anyone else that was intending on going.

I am planning to go, still have to find a room though.

All 13 of our rooms are spoken for. If one falls through I'll try to remember you.

I will be there for sure. Taking vacation days so I dont miss it this year. If a single person desperately needs a place to stay, there's room for a sleeping bag in my office. (i'm in maryville, about 30 minutes to the dragon).

I apologize in advance for my lack of boost ;) ....maybe someday....

I was looking around and I don't think I will have too much trouble finding someplace as long as I don't mind being an hour or so away.

Where are your rooms Robert? I would like to meet some of the folks from this forum if possible.
