I'm sorry but I'm not getting the point of your answers. What's so wrong with the iron as a material?

Maybe it is a misunderstanding between english and greek.

Iron is way too heavy and unnecessary, we'd prefer aluminum, and eat the costs. How much does this iron plate weigh?

NA6C-Guy 11-07-2009 11:32 PM

Steel isn't much lighter, but I would rather have something less brittle. I would rather pay more to avoid having 18-19th century skillet technology between my block and transmission. But yeah, aluminum would be ideal. I wouldn't really mind steel though, something that size couldn't weigh more than a few pounds more than aluminum. Though weight does add up. At least its low on the car though.

It's not a problem for me to use aluminum. The cut will be cnc machined, so the material is not a problem. I'll have detailed costs for the two materials soon.

This is the mount (and it is made from aluminum)

Updates?
- more details on that ppf adapter, specifically how it's mounting to the tail shaft
- pricing... and shipping to the US

And for those interested, know you're going to need a hybrid drive shaft (Miata tail, TII input) and a clutch disc solution- which means your current Miata clutch at least re-hub'd to a tII spline/diameter.

steel is best for this sort of thing IMO, stainless is a bit pricey and aluminum is a little soft.

besides, my 3/8" steel adapter plate only weighs 9 lbs.

I was hoping to mill off 1/2" from the face of the bell housing and then weld the aluminum adapter plate to the bell housing. This way i can get the shifter in the stock location.. that was the plan anyway.

He just needs to send us the CAD file. Shipping from Greece would be fail on these.
