It was worse this year than I recall in any previous year, at least in the ham. One day it was fine, the next day while out driving, you could see a really thick yellow haze over just maybe half of a mile. Pollen storms whipped up by the wind. Today while I was watering my garden a big puff of wind came along and blew a huge cloud of pollen off of the pine trees that surround my house. I had to run inside to take cover to avoid being gagged by it. So apparently that good shower we got last night didn't cure it. My car was gold for 2 days, and it's normally red. :vash: Fortunately, I don't have very bad allergies. I get sniffles a little every now and then maybe, but not too bad.

Same for me. Horrible allergies when I was younger. Went to Vegas on a trip with parents and had a dessert with Walnuts. Spent the rest of the trip in bed.

After a few years of allergy shots, my allergies are well under control now, but when they do break out, its bad to the point where I cant make it to work.

Allergy shots are definitely something to look into if you have not already.

Yea, I was watching the news today and they said anything over 120 parts per cubic feet was considered extremely high. The readings they were getting over the past 2 days were 5250 parts per cubic feet! They said it was due to the overwhelming water that we got in the last couple months and the week of heat. All the trees decided to bloom all at once.

When i was a kid I got tested and they told my parents I was allergic to rats and dust. It was like related to asthma. But I ain't no bitch so the allergies and asthma don't fuck with me!
But the high humidity do give me migraines =_=

Is currently 7c outside and will likely stay around that area. It's raining and will rain all morning, best of all, I CAN BREATHE AGAIN. Past 5 days have been an absolute hell. I am definately going to consult a doctor about allergy vaccines because I'm just not hardcore enough to deal with it.

Another Zyrtec fan here. If I can tell that an allergy attack is building, I mix a couple Sudafed. It is a wonderful cocktail.

I do not know about other states, but Florida likes to make it difficult for those with allergies and they will keep the Sudafed behind the counter or with the pharmacist. You have to sign things and have your license swiped. This is to try to thwart meth manufacturers, as some Sudafed (the stuff that works) has Pseudoephedrine as an active ingredient, which is used to make the meth. Guess what? Meth is still available to those that want it, and it is a pain in the ass for me to get my medication.

Meth is a hell of a drug.

Doppelgänger 04-09-2010 07:56 AM

I <3 Claritin-D...that stuff makes me feel soooooo good....no wonder the crackheads used it to make meth lol

If I had my way, I'd make sure all cops gave a swift club to the face of anyone they caught with meth. Those people are the scum of the Earth and are directly responsible for the many nights I have spent awake and barely able to function because I wasn't able to obtain medication containing pseudoephedrine. My older brother did meth for awhile and I still give him all kinda of shit every time I see him...I'm surprised we have not gotten in a fistfight over the shit I have talked to him :giggle:

Generic store brand antihistamine works best for me for some reason, even over the prescription stuff, which costs alot more and seems to do nothing, i helped my allergies a bit by moving to a dry place but its still perty bad this time of year. Stock up on tp for your nose.

I'm allergic to vaginas. They make my dick swell up.

Sorry, I had to...

I've only recently started having springtime allergies and they seem to be getting worse every year. Claritin (loratidine) is worthless. I think my wife tried Zyrtec but she couldn't sleep at night when she was using it. I haven't tried it. Afrin No-Drip Mist is very nice (with menthol). Ibuprofen helps the headaches a little. Chlorpheniramine Maleate (antihistamine) is useless even at 3 times the standard dosage.

Everything from the cars to the buildings to the walkways is covered with pollen. There are places where I can't see the ground because of all of the oak blooms littering the ground. The ground is brown with them. There are more of them than blades of grass in my yard because I have a canopy of giant grandfather oaks over my entire neighborhood. Stupid trees. I get a headache in 20 seconds walking from the car to the front door. It gets worse as I linger outside. AAARRRGGGHHH!

:bowrofl:

It's been raining all day (thank god) and has kept most of the crap on the ground, but it's going to be a very hot week, like 25c average, and that's pretty damn hot, by Canadian standards anyways...

Mine fuckin suck right now!

Blaize 04-09-2010 06:28 PM

recently heard about a radical treatment for this on "this American Life". I have never had a real problem with hay fever/allergies, but damned interesting stuff all the same. Seams modern man is over-sanitizing himself.......

My allergies have gotten better as I've gotten older but I still get them bad when everything blooms (mostly grass & trees).

Claritin doesn't work for me. I use Zyrtec when it gets bad but I also can't sleep when I take it. That shit gives me chemical nightmares, its the only time I ever have them.

Usually when my eyes start watering I'll use Alavert (24 hr that melt in your mouth and taste like orange). If I can keep my eyes from watering too much it keeps the rest in check.

I never was allergic to anything for 38 years than last year in the spring stuffy and sneezing....WTF and its back this year. Sux!

Thanks for the heads up on Zyrtec. It seems to help a little. The sleeping thing is quite strange. I had a little extra trouble falling asleep, but must have had some pretty intense dreams going on. At 2:56 in the morning I JUMPED out of bed and stood there in the pitch dark in the middle of the room not knowing where I was. I should point out that this is abnormal behavior for me.

Here's what I am up against in the way of pollen. I have huge grandfather oaks around my house and those of my neighbors that make a canopy so dense that it almost won't allow grass to grow. My next door neighbor has a lot of bare dirt in his yard. Are any of you familiar with oak "flowers?" They are essentially just pollen dispensers and they look like worms from a distance. My neighbor's bare brown dirt yard is covered with them.

We just had a rain three days ago and look how much pollen is on the Miata already:

The streaks are not from the rain but from the morning dew running of the car.

I love Springtime.

I woke up at 2:56 AM this morning sneezing my lungs out. I gave the Afrin spray a try, it seems to help a little with the sinus pressure, but the mucus still flows like Niagra falls. I sneeze very loudly, and felt like a douchebag when I started sneezing every 10 seconds today in the office. I've got to give zyrtec a try. Its the only thing I haven't tried yet.
