Anyone else snowboard/ski?

Just curious, dont know about you guys.. but im getting antsy. First snow came through about a week ago, and its snowed once more since.. the mountain is starting to get that nice winter coat.

I started about two years ago, and have been addicted since.. Season pass both years, going at least 30 times each year. And I'm about to drop the $500 again this year for my pass.

Anyone else passionate about the snow sports?

I love skiing. I try to go at least 3-4 times a season. Usually just go to the crappy mountains in the Pocono area, but we have been going to Gore Mountain once a year too. Should be going there again around the first week of Feb.

Always remember to pack at least 2 flasks of homemade polish vodka.

I was really into it growing up when I lived in denver, then I moved to detroit in high school and cars took over. Lately I've been thinking about getting more into skiing again. I'm planning on teaching the wife this winter.

It truly astounds me there are people that live in taos and do not have season passes. That place is amazing.

I've been snowboarding for about 6 years. Last year I only went once tho but I'm hoping this year I'll go more

Even though I live no where near snow, I love the stuff. Used to own 7 sleds at one time. I did try snowboarding for a couple years. I discovered after my 2nd year of basically falling down the hill in multiple ways, I would stick to snowmobiles. :D

Snowboarding for 3 years now. My boys, ages 21 and 26 got me hooked on it.
Usually go to Blue Mountain or Camelback in the Poconos. Went to Whiteface Mountain the first year I started. I was not experienced enough to take advantage of the great conditions, but had a blast. Stayed at Whiteface Lodge, which I highly recommend. Cannot wait for the snow!

There are way too many people here who dont do anything outdoors.

Also, this made me lol. If you are familiar with cross country skiing, its even funnier.

Ben, let me know if you ever come up to ski.

Yes. Mainly lurking, I think I posted a couple of times but I don't remember if I properly introduced myself on the forum. I will need to do that next time I am over there. I am honored you have spoken with me, it appears you are a legend in the Central NJ area.

Fireindc, we used to go to ski every year as a family when our kids were growing up.

We're planning on visiting our youngest son in Dallas at the end of the year and I had come across the Taos ski area as a possible option. Do you know how many hours it would take to drive from Dallas to Taos?

I'm trying to convince my wife to go but if she decides not to, I may visit my son a week earlier and he and I talked about making the trip for a 4 day ski stay.

Also; would you have any idea about how much the daily passes would cost per person?

I know there are other places to ski in NM which could be cheaper. Any thoughts?

Thanks

A Dominican that knows how to ski? Wow, I'm impressed.

I'm Bi... Ski and snowboard:laugh::facepalm:

I have 3yrs of 100+ days, another 3 years of 50+ days, and the last 4 years have been ~15 days a year. Responsibility sucks!

Our local resorts should be opening this weekend (up here in BB).

I live in Florida and used to travel every winter to snowboard. Been quite a few places. I miss it like nothing else. I should have been born in a ski town.

Jeff_Ciesielski 10-29-2009 07:22 PM

I snowboard, but I'm thinking about picking up a set of ski-boards this winter. Inline skating in the summer and snowboarding in the winter just dont mix :/

Hey Rafa, I actually moved here from Houston, and have made the drive several times after moving. I can tell you that it will be about a 14 hour drive. Although if you want to go skiing NM will be the closest place.

Taos Ski Valley($69 per lift ticket per adult) is the best resort in NM, period. And weather you want to go there depends entirely on your skill level. However within a 50 mile radius of where I live, there are several other ski resorts. Angel Fire Ski resort($59 per lift ticket) has less steep and extreme terrain and is much better for beginners.

There are also several other "small" ski resorts including Sipapu(at $39, and my favorite small resort to ride), and Red River to name a few.

Note that any of the prices I quoted are for once the season is in full swing. Discount Season is usually 11/26/09-12/18/09 & 3/29/10-4/4/1, and the prices are quite a bit lower during those times.

Hope I helped you out with my local ski knowledge. Just so you know in NM there are other ski resorts, most of which at quite a bit lower altitude, and not quite as good snow. If you are making the trip to Albuquerque or Santa Fe to ski I would recommend you make the extra trip up to the Taos/Angelfire area where we are at 7,000 ft +.

Let me know if you ever come up here!

I snowboard, usually Tahoe but I think I'm going to do a road trip to Utah this year with a few friends.
