Been riding for 11 years. Last few years i have been taking night classes and working so havent been able to go much. I always like going but my snowboard friend is moving to spain for a year and wont be able to hit up the slopes. I may get a season pass.

I tried snowboarding once... didn't like it.

Seriously, skiing is my sport. Bought my season pass, and I'm heading up in about a month for opening day. I'll have to stop and get the ski rack at dad's sometime soon.

Fuck yah, I actually already have my lodging paid for. We are going to Colorado in December for two weeks and then in February for another week. My girlfriend got me into snowboarding and now I think I like it more than she does :)

I have 3yrs of 100+ days, another 3 years of 50+ days, and the last 4 years have been ~15 days a year. Responsibility sucks!

Started to do it about 20 years ago and to my ever ending surprise it turned into the best family vacation ever! It was the first time I could share a physical activity with my 3 sons and my wife and even get some skiing in group. I loved it.

It was so good that we kept on doing it for quite some time. Stopped doing it because going to ski in Vail became a local fashion statement and I'm not into that.

Taos Ski Valley($69 per lift ticket per adult) is the best resort in NM, period. And weather you want to go there depends entirely on your skill level. If you are making the trip to Albuquerque or Santa Fe to ski I would recommend you make the extra trip up to the Taos/Angelfire area where we are at 7,000 ft +.

About my skiing skills; nothing to right home about (started to ski when I was around 38) but I ski down blue and black runs without too much hassle. I hate bumps with a passion though! :laugh:

7,000 ft + is not that much of a problem. In fact, I would think it would make for perfect snow! Vail is over 11,000 ft and I did face issues there a couple of times. You get there and can't ski for the first 24 hours! Not fun :vash:

BTW, wouldn't you say that it would be a shorter trip to NM from Dallas than from Houston? I mean, isn't NM in a straight line with Dallas? My US geography sucks! :vash:

Dallas to ABQ, Santa Fe, or Taos would be a shorter drive than Houston by about 3 hours. Dallas is a bit farther south that ABQ. Amarillo is about even in lattitude with ABQ.

If it's a really good snow season Pajarito is a nice, kinda hidden local spot. It's basically in Los Alamos right near the labs. If the natural snow sucks, skip it. I tend to go towards Durango and Wolf Mountian in Pagosa Springs. Sandia hasn't had worthwhile snow in years, though it's starting to snow early this season.

Taos is a great mountain and city. Fireindc is a lucky man.

Well, I usedtocould. Ski, that is.

I used to ski an average of 20 days every season - for 20 years - when I lived in AK. I would buy a deeply discounted midweek season pass at Alyeska, and skip the crowded weekend scene.
I also kept all my ski gear right by the front door, like a fireman. I would run over to Alpenglow for night skiing in the evenings, too.
There was plenty of cross country skiing, too. Usually 7 to 10 mile runs late at night. Does wonders for conditioning.

I would also go on ski vacations in the lower 48. Did some wild country skiing, and cat skiing, too. An entire day in the wildest mountains on a couple of snowmachines would mean amazing skiing for the price of a couple gallons of gas.

Now that I moved to Istanbul, I have only managed 4 days in the past five years. Sucks.
Skiing is considered a rich bastard's pastime here. Resorts are chock full of pretentious assholes who would rather show off their expensive shit than ski.

Skiing requires discipline, but is the most fun I have ever had without having to unzip my pants.
