Anyone ever get a vasectomy?

I'm contemplating getting a vasectomy and am looking for experiences and advice. How do you choose a doctor other than Google reviews? What was recovery like? Was it a general anesthesia procedure?

As far as I know, they're usually done with local anesthesia. Recovery should be relatively quick - considering it's surgery. Take a few days off to be sure.

I think in the US, planned parenthood does inexpensive and quick vasectomies.

I did work for a little while in an IVF clinic. Make sure you are 110% sure, maybe even save some man-naise just in case - have it frozen. From a plumbing point of view they are reversible, however you will likely make anti-sperm antibodies. So, the sperm agglutinates and it doesn't want to do the job and you'll need ICSI (where they inject the sperm into an egg).

I also watched a guy have a biopsy to find a viable sperm. They cut a 1/4" cube of testicular tissue out and dug through it til they found a single one to use.

So yeah, just make sure you are sure.

Hope this helps :)

I had it done, 3 kids is enough. One side was easy/simple/typical/unpainful. The other side hurt like a motherfucker and still gives me issues from time to time. Random pains, highly sensitive to getting hit (just a wrong tap and i'm on the ground), once got infected which was a few days of incredibly crazy pain. I think it's been 2 years now.

In terms of actual recovery, it was basic tylenol for me for a day or two. No change in plans, but I sit at a desk mostly.

3 other family members never had/have issues with their vasectomy.

Yeah, I'm sure. Been married to the same hottie for 20 years and we are done with chilluns. She needs to be off birth control for health preservation reasons.

Best way to pick a doc? Google reviews?

I wonder if there are vasectomy website's where people are asking how to put a turbo on a Miata.

Not unless you want some random ad showing up on your screen... or maybe everyone in Menlo Park having a good laugh. Don't you have a GP at all? Your wife could ask her GP or OBGYN for a referral (I'm sure they'll have a private giggle). I had mine done a long time ago and it was tylenol for a day back then.

Lol. We discuss everything here. We have threads on food, politics, travel, water heaters, you name it.

It turns out that Googling "vasectomy Tampa" pops up with a dozen clinics and hundreds of reviews of the doctors. I will try to pick one with five stars and no waiting, haha.

I'm glad it is a simple recovery. That was one of my major concerns.

Local anesthetic Short office visit. Continue birth control for some weeks, then take in a semen sample to show it worked.

I think ny libido went up afterworlds, but that would have been hard to quantity.

March Madness is when you get them. Lots of Urologists have sales on them, then you sit around on a bag of frozen peas and watch college basketball.

This is my go to forum whenever I have a technical question I want actual answers to.

My urologist is in the same complex as my Primary Care doc, so it was convenience. He ended up being a road bicyclist like me.
If you don't get a good vib from the doc during your consultation, GTFO. The urologist I saw during my 'infection' was shady as fuck.

My experience: Doc comes in and offers something to "take the edge off". Get that. Definitely get that. Because just after him, two very young, very attractive women came in to do some man-scaping. Needless to say, I was happy to have something in my system while they did their magic. Don't know why there had to be two of them. I think they were twins or sisters. Or maybe they were men, and maybe only one man, with a beard and a flannel shirt.

My point is, take whatever meds they offer.

Schroedinger 01-30-2019 03:51 PM

Had it done. Doc was a personal referral from a friend who had it done before me. The actual procedure was a breeze, much easier than anticipated. First day of recovery went well. Second day I got a little ahead of myself, went for a brisk 30 minute walk then went back to work. You definitely shouldn't do that. Days three and four involved much pain on something that resembled a purple grapefruit. Day 7, the resorbable suture that was sticking out of my skin was itchy and I gave it a tug. You definitely shouldn't do that either. By day 10 I was more or less back to normal.

GeneSplicer 01-30-2019 04:02 PM

Yes
Shave everything off - just not the sac... or you can let the pretty man do it
Take the blue pill
Spread em and think of happy place
Walk out with meds
Don't go mow the grass or race car for several days
Go to the "shooting range" and empty 25 or so rounds till your empty... you should have no problems there :D

Yup, Doctor used what he called the "Chinese non-invasive technique".
Left nut... and I quote "You have the thickest scrotal membrane I've ever seen". My response... of course... "That's what she said". The nurse in there with use lauged out loud. After 10 minutes and 2 time-outs by me so I could stop hyperventilating, he had to call the other doctor in to help because he couldn't find my vas through my thick-as-hell sack.
Right nut... took 3 minutes tops.

Anyways...
Basically the way I got it done, was that you get some serious local anethetic that sorta works. At one point, it'll feel like he's trying to pull your nut out through your nostril. It "hurts" in the same way that when you get kicked in the nuts, there's a 1-2 second period where it only sorta hurts before you double over in pain for 20 minutes... yeah, the whole procedure feels like the first second of that 1-2 second intial window. It doesn't "hurt", but it's damned uncomfortable, and I could literally feel it all the way up my spine into my sinuses. If all goes as planned, it's over in 6-10 minutes total. Then you kick it on the couch for 48 hours, don't run for a week, and don't lift for 10 days. Again, there wasn't any "pain" or "hurt"... it was just a very significant "uncomfortable" feeling that was kicking in some autonomic responses.

First, you assume the position.
Then, local anasthetic that takes a few minutes to spread out.
Then, he fishes around the outside of your sack and locates the vas deferens through your scroat and wiggles it to the surface.
Then, he makes a tiny incision in your scroat and with a tiny hook, fishes a loop of the vas out through the hole.
He cuts off a 5cm strip, then cauterizes and clamps both ends.
Then he pushes them back in the sack at different locations and depths.
Then a tiny bandaid on the incision... no stitches.
Repeat for the other ball.
Done in 10 minutes.

Awesome decision, no regrets. There are dozens of YT videos to watch if you like cocks & ballz.

What are the, if any, long term potential issues? Timmah mentioned sensitivity in that area. Who else has what else?
Talking 1-2 weeks after recovery and on, for as long as you had it til now

Schroedinger 01-30-2019 04:58 PM

These are purely anecdotal, but I feel like my hang low don't hang as low any more. On the other hand, my balls hang lower than ever. My sex drive dropped 50%, which is ideal because it is now roughly on pace with my wife's, and I no longer think that every 25 year old chick walking down the street is a remote possibility. It's liberating actually.

Hey, you asked.
