Default Anyone ever repair an LCD monitor?

Thought I'd take a shot here. Who knows:

I have a Dell 1703FPT monitor and one day it just went blank. Switched to new VGA cable and DVI cable. No avail.

Symptoms:

1) When plugging in, it displays a scrambled image (see attached pic) rotated 90* CCW.

2) Monitor glows but no display

3) Green power button stays lit and cannot be turned off. Monitor can't be turned off either.

4) With VGA cable unplugged, it doesn't display anything like "monitor disconnected". Just a glowing blank screen.

Any ideas? Inverter? Bad cap? Thanks.

I've done backlights and broken LCDs. Nothing like that though. Maybe find another broken one on ebay and swap parts?

I don't see any screws on the back. Don't the panels just pop off?

If you can't fix it, either ecost.com or tigerdirect.com for a replacement.
A bunch of 19"s under $100, several 22"s for $150ish, a bunch of 24"s at under $300, and even a 26" Viewsonic at $279... pick up that Harmony remote you know you want while you're there.

I bought a 22" Asus for $240 about 18months ago and it makes all of your computing tasks way easier. When I can get a 26" monitor for $200, I'll take the 22" into work. I've also got a 20" Dell monitor I got with my last computer that's still in the box that I need to unload on Craigslist before they're not worth anything.

keep the second one and have a 2 monitor system working for ya

to the OP, is there no DIY tutorial to fix them online? I have usually found write-ups on how to fix things I am afraid to open.

So I opened it up. Some repair guy said 90% of bad lcds are due to bad buldging caps. Didn't find any bad ones. All solder points look good.

I think the inverter is bad, but will cost $50 to replace. I think I'll just get another lcd.
