Default Anyone have a homemade racing cockpit? (xbox,ps3,pc)

Well I've got an old Sparco seat laying around, and I'm going to be picking up an xbox soon for the sole purpose of playing Forza 4, so I figured I'd build a homemade racing cockpit, but not really sure where to start...

do any of you have one that you've built from scratch? what materials did you use?

Im thinking of using PVC due to how easy it will be to assemble, but not sure if the PVC will hold my weight in the car, or how sturdy it would be (I'm 6'0", 195lbs). I'm also stripping off the old cover on the Sparco and re-covering it in faux-alacantra from Michaels (did it to the headliner in my M3, looked killer).

Post up details and pics if you got em!!

If I had the room/time/energy/moneytowaste I'd definitely do this. I'd suggest searching in google for diy gaming seats, you'll get a lot more ideas and inspiration than from here. Have you browsed the F4 thread? There's a few pictures there.

I made one out of 1/2" plywood for IRacing on the PC. Definitely do some googling. I found some really good references and a few actual plans.

yeah i've been browsing through there, definitely some interesting setups.

thanks, i'll do some searching on google.

So far I think I'm going to follow this design.... this is Tommy Milner's racing sim (Corvette Racing driver and 24 Hrs of LeMans winner in 2011).

Except I wont be using a $2,000 seat, lol.

I'm using my subs as my base, got my noname racing seat on there. I'm using it for my computer setup though with my GT25.

On my pic you can see my pedals connected to the seat (fully adjustable and goes back about 3-4" when i want to drive) with 1/2" mdf (that's what i had left from my old sub box), my 6 speed shifter is ziptied to an 85LB dumbbell. My wheel locks down to the desk. The 2 small shinny dumbbells under the seat are to bring the seat up to the right height. And as you can see I got my "center vents" to the right of that I've been thinking of getting a 3 monitor combiner but they are overpriced out the ***.

I'm 99% sure I'm going to follow Tommy Milner's PVC setup... looks to be the most simple and cost effective solution. I'll do a full write-up on it and post a new thread if anyone would be interested.

Still like to see everyone elses!

I'm waiting for someone to post up something like this.....

I've been in the process of building one for almost a year...doh!

I foolishly decided to make mine out of square steel tubing. I welded up the bottom frame and mounted a seat and rail from my old rx-7 turbo onto it. Now I just need to add the platforms for the pedals, wheel and shifter. I've got all of the materials, I just need to get off my **** and finish it up...

I'll draw something up on cad and build one my self. So far i'm planning on having the stand for the 3 monitors, 2 stands for my 2 front speakers and 2 movable keyboard/mouse stands for both of my keyboards with the top keyboard being the right height for the steering wheel.

I'm using a Wheelstand Pro with a G25 wheel and three monitors with an ATI Eyefinity card. Before I tried the Wheelstand Pro I thought it was going to be flimsy, but it is rock solid.

Even though I have an Eyefinity card I still use Software TripleHead to tie it all together as my two outside monitors are 5:4 and the middle one is 16:9.

Works really well in rFactor!

Cheers
