Default Anyone here a musician?

Or at leasts wants or tries to be? Just curious as to who among us are musically talented, or at least try to be like myself. I come from a very musical family, but have never formally learned an instrument, but can sort of play several instruments, drums, guitar, and though not really an instrument, I tinker with electronic music, anything with synthesizers, drum pads, ect.

A friend and I are just starting to make some electronic stuff just for fun, I just bought a Korg padKontrol, and he purchased a Korg R3 and a microKorg, and we went in half on a Korg Kaossilator Pro, and just built a computer specifically for this little project. The padKontrol is bad ***, and a ton of fun to use. So many functions, and can do almost everything to R3 can but without keys, and in a far more compact and travel ready package. You can initialize loops, use it as a midi controller, it has a built in xy pad that is a lot like a kaoss pad, and has extra function buttons and ***** for any assignable functions. My netbook runs it well enough along with Fruity Loops, but could use an extra GB of ram. Here is my new little toy that I have been playing with for the last 5 hours straight. Probably 95% of them are the white model, which is what I ordered, but I was very pleased to see the black one in the box. It normally is much harder to find and costs about $100 more for some reason. I guess they screwed up or didn't have a white one in stock. I would MUCH rather have the black one anyway.

And do share any pictures of your instruments (no gay pictures). I regret having sold my Mapex 6 piece maple kit. It took up room and I didn't use it enough. Investment of nearly $2000 sold for about $400 to the place I bought them a year or two prior. They like me I bet.

Me.

Here's some stuff from a current project I'm working on with a friend.

We've spent way too much fliff on equipment. That's not even half of it.

I'm still quite overwhelmed with the software end of things. Trying to get all of the stuff to talk with the software, and load all of the **** onto the padKontrol is proving to be a bit of a pain in my ***. I guess it will just be a lot of trial and error. So many damn settings, and any one could mess you up.

It's good! I like that kind of sound, actually sort of what we are going for, electronic with a mix of other "stuff", kind of experimental. How long have you been doing it?

Well I guess Im retired, I played in an orchestra for about six years (Middle and High Schoo) mostly string instrument; my main instrument is the viola, but I play the violin, cello for kicks and giggles and I taught me a bit of guitar to have something to impress chicks with ... so yeah

Fruity Loops is kicking my ***. Any time I try to record anything from a midi device it chops it up really badly. Too much **** in that program.

I can't read music so right now I'm playing the Djembe. I'm about to order a Didgeridoo! In the future I want to learn to read music and play the Trumpet.

I also stroke the pen... Not me but here's an example.

I am not half bad at singing death metal (not like anyone likes that **** here, haha), but am not in a band, I just enjoy scaring the crap out of my father.

Vocals aside, I play a bit of electric guitar and I've made several fruity loops beats which are okay from friend's opinions.

Music is a very big part of my interests and I'd really like to get into playing an instrument/vocals., just too much of a ***** to pick something and do it. Maybe one day...

On a side note, hit the 6k landmark tonight, currently have 6105 songs. Anyone heard of the metal band gojira? Discovered them last night and actually bought their CD's. Very good if you're into that type of thing. I'll upload a pic of my guitar/song tomorrow if anyone's interested.

Why does no one here like death metal? Too gay? I do, for the record.

I currently DJ as a hobby. DJ'd clubs and parties since 1993ish. My mom's a well-known cello teacher, so grew up in a classical household. She hates the electronica (well anything newer than the 1800s)....so frowns upon my tastes.

Here's a couple pics of my current setup in our new home (NYE). This is 1/2 my mancave:

I've played various guitars (classical, steel string, electric, 12 string...), chello, violin, trumpet, trombone and piano.

Mostly I play guitar (90% of my musical time) I have a Yamaha acoustic and a black squire strat ('93), both left handed. I've been playing since '97 but not as much lately as I bought a house and got married.

My grandfather (R.I.P.) was a violinist (and occasionally chellist) with the Toronto symphony orchestra, while having 7 kids and 3 other jobs. My uncle grew up with the guys from Rush and April Wine and has played with them on occasion.

I'm total crap compared to them.

I did the normal trumpet/tuba/choir thing in school. I am trying my best to learn guitar. My current setup:

The drums are two XBox360 Rock Band sets hooked together with a PVC frame. I run them into a computer via USB. I use a program to change the joystick signals into keyboard characters and then a program to change the characters into real drum sounds played through the PC speakers/sub. MUCH cheaper than a $1500 electronic drum machine.

The guitar is run through a PC with Guitar Rig 3 and a Rig Kontrol 1 foot pedal.

The bass is run through a Line6 amp (PC speakers do not like the bass running through Guitar Rig for some reason).

The classical guitar does not have pickups/amp (classical with the big neck).

The last guitar is a Wii Guitar Hero 3 guitar (I ran out of guitars to hang on the wall <G>).

I am looking for a cheap USB microphone setup.

Of course, I can play none of this stuff - but I'm trying...

I'm pretty big into music as well. I've been playing the upright bass for many years and am actually getting pretty good. My father builds tube amplifiers as a side business and therefore plays guitar. His website is hatcheramps.com and they really do sound nice. Other than that I've been getting into hiphop, electronica, and the blues. Like many others, music has just become a part of life.
