Default Anyone know how to make an AVI from a DVD?

I have tried many times of the last few years to take a DVD and make a usable AVI file out of it. I've got tons of movies on my HD that are 1GB or less and look fantastic but I have been unable to create something like that myself. My last attempt was this week where I used Bitripper to create an AVI of a semi-rare DVD I wanted to put on the computer. The results - 24 hours of encoding that yielded a 5 GB monstrosity with unsynched audio. Where is the 1-click solution that I have been looking for?

Use DVD Shrink: http://www.dvdshrink.org/

Then use Handbrake: http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

I tried DVDShrink (DVDshrink 2011 - downloaded from cnet.com) and it just locks my computer up.

I tried getting it from that spooky org site but it just looked like some sort of spyware junk to me. Wanted me to install some sort of "install program" with lots of features and toolbars and stuff. It was calling the program dvdburner.exe . Scared me too much so I backed out of it.

EDIT - I see on the dvdshrink forums that they stopped making the softare in 2005. They mention the crappy spyware junk that is being passed off as the real program now. I guess I will have to look around to see where to get the real thing. They do not list any download sites, only the hash to verify it is the real program. Off to search the interwebz.....

Get a pirate version of DVDFab Platinum.
That's what I'm using.
Here you go.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I used the two other programs to turn my 80min movie into a 1.2GB M4V file. Watchable (at least it looks like it at first glance) but definitely not what I was trying to do. I haven't looked at any of the settings or did any research on how to get a nice looking AVI file from it yet so I still have some work to do.

Ok, so I'm posting this here because its kinda-sorta related.

Can someone PLEASEEEEE let me know where I can get an MP3 converter program free? (0r which one I should get)
I have a bunch of music on my comp in WAV format (or whatever its called) and need to burn them onto a cd in MP3 format so I can fit 50-80 songs on there.

Tried like 10 different bullshit programs that I found on google and NONE of the pieces of **** actually work. Half are corrupted and/or don't work, and the other half will convert some of the songs and not all of them (even though there is no difference in size or format between the ones it can and can't do).

**** is extremely frustrating

I think Media Monkey will do what you want but I have not had the use for anything like that in a while so there may be much better stuff out there.

WELL

I downloaded it, and it works great and does exactly what the other 20 fail programs didn't. Burned my cd, fit 100 songs onto it, like a BAWS.

You are a life saver, thank you very much

Created a 994MB AVI from my 80min movie. Not bad. Very watchable. I wish it were a little smaller but it will work for now. Thanks!

Nope. Sucks. Won't work.

I tried to view it on my XBox1 and it was unwatchable (out of synch). So, back to square one. How can I watch 12monkeys.avi (720 MB 124 minutes great quality) when I can't watch eat&run.avi (994MB 80 minutes low quality). What did the guy who made 12monkeys.avi use/do?

What are you using to watch it on your xbox?
Been using that program for years and have never had a video encode out of sync.

XBMC. I've been using it for 5+ years. I never said it encoded out of synch. I only said the movie is unwatchable on the XBox. I am also unable to watch MP4s on the XBox.

Yep, just a regular old XBox1 since it works best for my situation. Used it last night to watch The Mechanic (R5 rip 1400 MB 88 minutes). Should have watched something out of synch instead (wasn't the best movie in the world) <G>.
