Default Anyone playing with Windows 7?

Found an interesting article from cnet:

Understanding Windows 7's 'GodMode' | Beyond Binary - CNET News

Basically create a new folder and name it "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" to get a huge control panel full of tweaks and otherwise unavailable goodness..

One thing about 7 I REALLY dislike... A folder full of photographs takes 20 minutes to update all the damn thumbnails when XP does it in 20 seconds.. Haven't found a fix for that yet, aside turning off all the visual enhancement crap, which I really didn't want anyway. This notebook is only a P4 2.0 afterall.. Runs pretty well with 1gb of ram though!

I have it on my new netbook. It came with the starter which sucked so i upgraded to pro using a Uconn account that i get for free. I love it. Runs fast considering its a netbook.

Vista is the same way with thumbnails. Makes **** browsing very tough XP could load a folder with 1000 images in 2 seconds, with Vista the same folder sometimes takes as much as a minute. Sometimes some of them don't load at all. One day I will upgrade to 7, but I just got Vista Ultimate 6 months ago, too soon to upgrade.

What kind of tweaks are those? Hard to see in the small picture. I love me some tweaks.

It says in the article that it works on Vista as well, but only 32 bit. But I just tried in on my 64bit system and it worked just fine. Very handy

I've been running Windows 7 Release Client for almost half a year now. I like it.

This God Mode seems like a list that brings every single setting you'd want to adjust onto a single page. Kinda neat!

I haven't backed up my **** in over a month, but I'm going to make a second partitian and install windows there, then salvage my **** off the old one and delete it. I had wanted to start with a fresh copy anyway, it was getting a bit laggy from all the **** I have installed and tweaked.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were XP, but ******* Vista is so goddamn slow to install, especially Ultimate. Seems like the first time it took like 2 hours with LOTS of screens that would just sit for 15-20 minutes, making it look frozen.

Turning off all visual styles and enhancements actually improved the thumb nail update to nearly the point of XP's...

Still digging through the settings in this godmode Panel, maybe I'll find something in there about thumbnails..

Actually I have another bit of a bone to pick, \\network browsing is a LOT slower than XP.. I have a fileserver setup for mass storage where I keep all my media, dvds, music, etc. Browsing folders on it with XP is lightning quick, but a lot of them take 40 or 50 seconds to display the contents. Its a work in progress I know, hell of a lot better than Vista for sure!

TBH, I'm not even sure what version I have.. Just says Windows7 Ultimate..

Holy ****. That **** messed my Vista ALL the **** up. Even on my new install of Vista, even trying to browse my old desktop to salvage files on it, just typing the directory user\_____\desktop causes explorer on my new OS to lock up. I was trying to get to a folder with my music on the desktop to get a few new things I hadn't backed up. That's some serious **** whatever the hell it did. Fortunately the desktop didn't have anything that important, only those few songs, which I can get easily enough.

Vista != Windows 7.

I bought the student price 7 pro and dual booted it with my xp install. after porting over my most used programs, I haven't bothered to go back to xp because 7 is so much faster and easier. sadly my obdii reader doesn't run right in 7 so I have to trade up or something.

btw, the first time you load a folder full of pictures, windows creates a thumbnail file so subsequent loading is faster. or should be.

so far though it's a nice OS. they only load what you need during installation so not only does it take 15 minutes to install (honestly), it takes much less time to boot up and uses less RAM unless you add **** later.

my 3 yr old tablet runs Aero fine too.

My vista 64 computer that Im on right now has no issues from the godmode folder, so I guess Im just a badass.

I do wnat to upgrade to 7 though. Sounds like the finally got it right, fast like XP and pretty like Vista, haha.
