Arise, [Clarkson on] Top Gear!
Officially
|
I had just read about this a few hours ago. I hope the trio leaves and starts a new show, through Netflix or HBO or something.
Wont be the same without Jeremy, and I read that James/Richard are leaving too if Jeremy leaves. |
Welp,
Time to DL all episodes. Hope they continue as a trio on new endeavors. |
Assuming Hammond and May stay, I'd be curious who they try to replace Clarkson with. Regardless I think this is their "jumping the shark" moment.
|
Yep RIP TG.
Almost swapped my MX in for a Reliant Robin.....Some Say! Time for some top Clarkson quotes maybe? |
Some say, he only knows two facts about ducks and both of them are wrong.
R.I.P TG. :'( |

Is the Stig character owned by BBC? There's no Stig in USTG, right? I've never watched USTG.
|
Top Gear is dead.
Long live Top Gear... |

There is some rumors flying around that JC already had a deal for a new show. I hope they are true. Or... they could take over US Top Gear! |

Id like to download the old Top Gear episodes starting around '88 when Clarkson joined.

Found the one I was thinking about |
I watched a bunch of the late 90s ones, some of which I had actually seen on TV way back when (probably the best thing I ever found on satellite TV)
Ive heard that the show got good when Clarkson came on and was pretty dry before that, and of course it got more exciting when "New" Top Gear started. |
I'm thinking BBC will replace Jeremy, of course the show won't be the same. After a few episodes people will come to accept the new guy for who he or she is.
I do know person needs to be funny with comedy being a major factor in the the show's success. |
^ I seriously doubt this.
I really don't think the other two will try to continue the show without Jezza. |
They will probably start a new "Final Gear" somewhere :D
The forum on finalgear is still there though (conflict of interest)... |
We should protest the BBC by driving very expensive vehicles into the Boston harbor.

I'm hoping the three of them will find a way to stick together and be given an opportunity to host another show. It seems like James and Richard wont continue without Jeremy and I wouldn't blame them. With the success of TGUK it's hard to imagine that there aren't any other networks out there that would love to scoop these guys up and get them back on tv,providing that they would be interested in doing so.
|
Just to be clear in spite of all of us desperately loving top gear and the Jezzer...
What he did was wrong and he's gotta accept the consequences. If you think he was unaware that something like this might happen (i.e. that he would let us all down and kill the show), then you are naive. That said, the show will leave a gaping hole in my TV. |
Im sorry but: cold food? matt. really. this is 2015.
|
RIP TG

I'm still trying to wrap my head around punching some guy because of cold food

Anyone actually find and read a copy of the BBC's report on the incident, or is it not public yet? (I've not looked) |

Oh, and this: Jeremy Clarkson: Return not ruled out, says senior BBC figure - BBC News |
Its interesting that according to the report he reported the incident himself a few days after. If it was such a big deal, why didn't someone else on the crew (or hotel) report it?
|
pansies.
Don Draper is not impressed. |

I've read comments that the BBC has covered for a sexual predator yet they decided to take a hardline position over Clarkson throwing a punch thrown outside a bar. I'm not saying JC wasn't in the wrong but the BBC has to be run by a bunch of imbeciles.
|
I can't help but think that this may have partially been a ploy to retire without simply... retiring. I'm not saying he wasn't genuinely mad, but he is getting old and you know he doesn't need the money. If he simply retired then his fans would be pissed, but in this way it could be perceived that he was forced to retire.
I dunno. |

Hammond does a lot of other BBC radio and TV work and so does May. I don't see them leaving the BBC to work elsewhere. Clarkson may do something else but it will likely be on his own. Hammond and May will not do the show without him so the show will be replaced eventually with another automotive show with a new concept/name. I'm guessing it will be dry, with a docile host. I'm picturing something like the Autoweek show on PBS and it will get weak ratings. But it will fill the public-owned broadcasting system's auto consumer news function, which is what the BBC really wants. They aren't beholden to advertisers and marketshare in the way that other networks are so they will do whatever is easy and expedient to fill the gap and not what will gain the greatest viewership or keep the public happy. Government doesn't care.
|
^usually I agree with you, but I think you're wrong on this one.
The BBC is used to huge revenue from this show and they will want to hang on to that. I don't know what WILL happen, but I think they'll try to keep Top Gear, just perhaps with new presenters. It'll have weak ratings at first, but will pick up a bit as people realize that the new knobs aren't so bad.... but likely will never reach the crazy viewership the current show enjoyed. |
Whatever comes down the road, I hope it's not as dry as TGUS :crx:
|
This news is so big even my wife is like "wtf, this is everywhere"
|
I heard Clarkson did it to distract from Berghdal.
|
friday night pub chat results: new top gear line up proposal....
Suzi Perry out of bbc F1 Ann Robinson out of weakest link... bbc Sabine out of nurburgring taxi .....debate |
If you gave up on TGUS early give it another shot. Recently they dropped the star in a cheap car stuff and made it just adventures. They have some good stuff mixed in. I really liked their Alaska trip.
|
Conspiracy theory:
918 is faster than the P1 around MRLS, Jeremy didn't want to have to change his name so the show got canceled. |

Can't wait for all three to find a new home, and one of their first episodes to make fun of that moment on every challenge when some BBC random nameless person in a white lab coat came out of the woodwork with instructions.
Now it'll be some roadie or something. The 'now we have a low-budget' humor will be epic. Also, Clarkson should start raving about all GM products and claim BBC forced him to say he hated Corvettes back in the day. |
I agree that TGUS has improved a lot in the last couple seasons. Still not as good as proper TG, but better than nothing.
|
British humor is British.
|
I would rather chew and eat a no. 2 pencil than watch TGUS.
