Default Automated resume screeners?

I had an interview a week ago Thursday, they hadn't officially even put the job in their system yet, but I had an inside contact. I received an email on Tuesday from one of the interviewers to "formally apply" in their system since they finished the job description.

I go online Tuesday evening, apply, etc. Thursday afternoon I receive an email from the HR dept stating that I haven't been selected for the position (very strange given we talked about money and such before he even brought me in for the interview).

So I sent him a very polite email Thursday evening asking if he would be willing to provide feedback on what skills I lacked for the position, etc. I then receive an email on Friday evening stating that I'm still in consideration for the position and he has confirmed with HR he wants to move to the next step in the hiring process. He didn't even know the HR system had sent an automated reply.

Too much technology these days.

I can understand for certain positions, but when you're talking about very niche positions (Tech Writer in Aerospace in this case), it just doesn't seem to make sense.

At a company I worked for years ago there was a salesperson I wanted to hire for a territory where HR tried to 'nix' it because they said he didn't have the right "pedigree" in their opinion.

I was the director of sales and overruled them.

Guy ended up as the top performer, on average, vs. the people who came with the pedigree.

HR should be renamed to Benefits Administration. Likely there are good ones though.

Edit: Sorry, a bit off topic.

2-3 layers of outsourcing of the recruitment process can be a nightmare. Only safe mid-packers get through.

LinkedIN and other personal contact surfaces are much more efficient (for both parties), but bypassing the decided process can get uncomfortable.
