One of the many nice things about NC, pre 1996 only require a safety inspection. In some counties all cars only require a safety inspection.

That's why I bought a 94. Knew I wanted to go turbo when I bought it. Didn't want to deal with crap like that. Passed sniffer easily with mspnp, 550's, begi s4 system, high flow cat, enthuza exhaust.

I'm starting to lean towards OBD-II myself. So long as you make your wiring harness plug-n-play, it doesn't seem that hard to swap the computer and injectors back to stock every other year. In CA, by contrast, they're starting to tighten up the numbers for the pre OBD-II cars. My last test there I passed, but not by a huge margin on NO, and that was with a 2 year old CARB-approved cat.

At that point (OBD II where you can set parameters) becomes a benefit more than a drawback, as the car will do diagnostics for you. Not living in CA, I see the retroactive tightening of emissions standards as a great way to get cheap cars/parts elsewhere as people give up on them. :D If I was in CA, I'd be up in arms, though. |

how can they retroactively change the emissions figures?
You gotta live in CA for a while to appreciate all of this I expect. |

It's very easy. First they enact a regulation saying they can retroactively change emissions figures, then they change the emissions figures. It also seems like pre-OBDII cars are increasingly being directed to test-only stations, which makes me wonder if they plan to eliminate the requirement for the test-and-repair places to have the rollers.

I'm going to be pissed when I have to smog my truck in 2010. :vash:

Smog laws here in Cali suck....
|
No inspections of any kind at all here. One of only two things that doesn't suck about this state and I forgot what the other one was.

That being said, I despise Florida and can't wait to move back out to So Cal. |
What's Florida missing beside lots of signs in Spanish and In-N-Out burger?

What we have is oppressive heat & humidity. More insects per cubic foot than 'Nam. Old people and rednecks who can't drive and don't understand the concept of slower traffic keep right. More LEOs per capita than East Berlin, and they've all got nothing better do than run speed traps. Roads that are straighter and flatter than anything you can imagine and yet still have 30-40 MPH speed limits. What we are missing is diversity of terrain- mountains, seven different kinds of desert, that sort of thing. Here, it's all just a continuous mix of swamp & heavy woods. We're missing serious race shops. We're missing business and industry in general. We're missing Palomar Mountain and the canyons of Julian. We're missing fish tacos and Fry's. |

I dont swap shit and have passed every time. |
I don't know what I would do if they enacted shit like that in Florida. Probably hurry up and sell my car before the regulations took place and purchase a Honda Fit or some other reasonable car.
