Battlestar Galactica

Ok, I want a show of hands. Who here actually cried at the end of last night's episode?

91NApeewee 06-15-2008 01:04 AM

I voted for "Battlestar Galactica? Didn't that show end in 1979?" seeing I had no idea that show was on still. Was it good Joe, did you cry?

StankCheeze 06-15-2008 03:24 AM

Where is the comedy option "Joe is a ------"?

silentbob343 06-15-2008 03:39 AM

downloaded, but have not watched.

Bryce 06-15-2008 03:47 AM

Love the show, but I'm just never watching when it's on and I'd never get around to watching it if I recorded it.

silentbob343 06-15-2008 04:35 AM

lol called that shit back in January. I have friend who's sister watches the show and we were talking about possible outcomes, that was my theory for the end.

Oh and no I did not cry, my testicles prevent that from occuring.

Ben 06-15-2008 09:24 AM

You do realize that they're only half way through season 4 right?

The last few episodes (and the very first one) of this season were freakin awesome. But I'm going to be pissed if StarBuck's "new" Viper is the final Cylon.

Last I heard, SciFi only had half of season 4 filmed before the various hollywood work stoppages, and they weren't sure if they were going to finish filming it when work resumed. I sure hope that they do; BSG is probably my favorite fiction show on TV. I have season 1 on HDDVD and the season 2 Emmy Set. 3 I downloaded off the 'net b/c it wasn't available on DVD until recently.

Oh, and I got teary-eyed when BS Pegasus jumped next to Galactica. "Pegasus Actual. Adama, is that you?"

miatamania 06-15-2008 09:56 AM

I haven't watched any...I wants to see...

kotomile 06-15-2008 10:04 AM

Nerds!!!!

MX_Eva 06-15-2008 10:10 AM

Aww dammit....I knew there were reasons I liked my old room mate. He had a set up that recorded and auto cut commercials. Need to pester him about letting me come over and watch BSG.

jayc72 06-15-2008 11:03 AM

BSG is by far the best thing to come on TV in a long time. Pretty edgy stuff for TV. The interrogation rape of Boomer was intense for a TV Show.

I'm somewhat glad they are doing a split season, draw it out so it can be savored. And I'm not totally convinced the final four are actually Cylons.

LOL, "NERDS!!!!"
I've had 2 people call me so far today to ask to borrow my Season 1 HDDVDs!

Braineack 06-15-2008 01:58 PM

Not feeling a lot of love here. :D

I don't think it can be. The skinjobs don't seem to count their centurions as members, or even the raiders, which are organic. Only the fully humanoid models seem to count. Besides, D'Anna saw five humanoid-looking forms in the Operahouse.

So, four down, and #5 isn't in the fleet (though I have to admit, D'Anna had me last week when she told the Prez she was it.) Also presumably not part of the cylon fleet, and not likely still back at the colonies either. So it's not just who, but where? Assuming of course it's still alive. Isn't it interesting that of all the planets and all the ships in the colonies, and all the hundreds of millions killed, that these four managed to survive it all- even Anders, a civilian with no military or political signifigance.

Still a lot of good topics to cover. What did the Hybrid mean when it told Kara she was the harbinger of death? If Pythia was right (and it has been so far) why is Roslin still alive? Surely we haven't seen the last of the Ones, Fours and Fives- will mortality change them? What happened to Boomer that made her vote against the Eights? Why is Hara so important? Does the same apply to Tyrol's son- after all, Tory airlocked Callie (putting herself at risk of discovery) to save him. What the hell IS Baltar's virtual Six, and for that matter, Caprica Six's virtual Baltar?

But I didn't expect they'd get there so soon. It's going to be a tough act to follow, and I have absolutely no idea how they're going to close this one out.

Last I heard was that Ron Moore has stated that they will indeed be finishing the series. And in a way, this is a good point to break the season much like what they did with S2 right after Pegasus. Thus far, the cliffhanger episodes have always been followed by much awesomeoness, so I can wait.

Ok, at the risk of gayness, my "Yeah, I'm a manly man, wassit to you?" list of misty moments:

1- "33": Ros is at the Whiteboard of Destiny, on the verge of emotional collapse. Billy walks in with an update. Barely able to muster the effort, Ros asks "Subtract how many?" to which Billy replies "Actually, you can add one.A baby was born this morning on the Rising Star. A boy.

2- "Fragged": Sellix, Tyrol, Cally and Baltar are pinned down, losing ground. The heavy weaponry is exhausted. Wounded, and thinking "Well, this is the end", the Chief stands up and, in an act of utter futility borne of desperation, starts firing at the advancing cylons with his pistol. As he empties his clip, they explode. He turns around, to see the Raptor that finally came to their rescue

3- "Exodus (II)": The ground battle is turning against the humans. A group (including Tigh) is pinned down and taking casualties, unable to move or communicate, when right above their heads Galactica jumps in and starts falling like a whale, exhaling vipers out of every orifice. There's a brief moment back on the ground where everyone's eyes say "Hey, we're not going to die here after all."

4- "Revelations": Everything has been going too well, we're all expecting the shit to hit the fan, and then Felix: "The visible constellations are a match." They're done. The beauty shot of the whole fleet against a pretty blue planet. The look in everyone's face (been a while since we saw the interior of the refinery ship), Starbuck visiting Kat's photo on the wall... We're just awestruck- "I can't believe they made it!"

And then, to quote Charlton Heston, "You Maniacs! You blew it up!"

Do not jump into the series mid-stream. You must start at the very beginning- the two part miniseries, and go in order. I blew off the show for a year and a half. Happened to pick up disc 1 just because my NetFlix que was empty, and was hooked. Ran through the whole series in order and caught up to "realtime" midway through S2.0. Yes, season 2 drags a bit in places, but it's worth it.

The thing I love most about this show: Apart from being set in outer space, it's not really sci-fi. More of a great military / political drama. There's no technobabble, everyone dresses and speaks "normally", the guns shoot real bullets which cause people to bleed and die slowly, the cars have rubber tires and burn gasoline, people go to the bathroom (tech note- in the entirety of Star Trek and ST:TNG including all ten movies, nobody once took a shit, and the only person ever to urinate did so while under the influence of an alien virus), getting shitfaced results in a hangover, sickbay does not contain any mysterious glowing devices that heal you instantly, there are no tractor beams or deflector shields... There's really only one piece of "magic" technology, and they hardly ever talk about it. Tom Clancy spent more time spouting technobabble about the propulsion system in Hunt for Red October than they do blathering on about the Jump Drive- it's just the thing in the back that makes the ship go fast.

Tigh is the big mystery. If he & Adama have known each other for 30 years, and it's only been ~45 years since the armistice, how is it possible that in that short space of time they went from walking chrome toasters to skinjobs able to infiltrate the fleet? Ok, assume that given their outcast and apparently individual status, perhaps the five were prototypes. Still, the rest of them don't seem old enough (and if Tigh is a Cylon then we do know that they age at a rate comparable to humans) to have been around when Tigh first joined the fleet.

Not to mention the fact that Caprica Six is pregnant, and Tigh is apparently the only one who has been boning her. That can't happen, or can it?

Anyway, if you're really dying to know the answer, highlight the spoiler below:

-----begin spoiler-----
When asked in an interview on March 27, 2007 "Are these four all full Cylons?", Ron Moore replied "Yes, but they are different fundamentally."
-----end spoiler-----

#5 isn't technically in the fleet... If it's already on the Cylon BaseShip. :)

This is my favorite scene of the whole series. I love watching Galactica falling towards earth pissing its Vipers, and 2 seconds before it crashes into New Caprica's surface, crushing Tigh and other Colonials, she jumps away to orbit to fight (3?) BaseStars. And who didn't know that Pegasus was going to jump in to save the day?

silentbob343 06-15-2008 09:52 PM

Season finale will in in 09, mother fuckers. Oh well, good things come to those who wait.

Does the same apply to Tyrol's son- after all
Was wondering that myself; he's another half cyclon and should be just as rare/special as Hara.

curly 06-15-2008 09:55 PM

I think my favorite was when all the basestars were destroying galatica, and they were like "this is the end" and then unkown missles start destroying the basestars, and it ended up being the pegasus, that was pretty cool.

My sister got me season one for christmas. within two or three months I had 2, 2.5, 3, and a burned copy of the razor miniseries. good stuff.

Savington 06-15-2008 11:33 PM

Jesus, I don't even wear glasses and I had an urge to put some on, and then push them further up the bridge of my nose after reading this thread.

Show of hands, Star Trek convention/dyno day combo?
