BEGi vs FM
Am I nuts or are the FM guys kinda rude?
Been emailing Stephanie with questions/options for turbo kits, and she always replies in a friendly tone, listing options ad nauseum, offering more help and options if needed. :bigtu: FM, got some guy named Jeremy, who more-or-less bashes Bell, says their stuff is better, and I basically need to stop asking questions and order a full kit. :td: deleted per jayc72 deleted per jayc72 |
Lets not take this to a thread about who is better. I will just say, I've only dealt with bell and I find their products and service to be fantastic.
|
I've dealt with both companies a few times. My personal preference is for BEGi. Stephanie is a great gal to deal with and her voice is kinda sexy ;)
|
Jeremy is a dick. I was less than pleased dealing with him.
|
me = need flexible lower radiator hose
me = see FM uses one on new kits. FM = will sell me a $10 NAPA part for $20 and leave the label on it. BEGi = will tell me to go buy same part at NAPA. Well, technically Corky wouldn't use a $10 universal radiator flex pipe as part of their turbo kit..... |
This thread is going to get ugly. i'm pretty sure begi is going to have a more loyal following.
|
there are a total of 4 members here that acutally like FM and defend them. BEGi has their days as well, but all-in-all the consensus here is easily determined.
|
I did the same dance with FM too. Except their customer service told me to even get on the waiting list for their new kits, I would have to pay full price. (They had to date when the kits may ship) BEGI gave me a timespan and everything, you pay half up front, and the other half when your kit ships. The tech support is awesome. With the Xede you send your maps in to them and they tweak them. Every question I have had has been answered pretty much promptly.
|
I've always found Jeremy to be dismissive and border line rude. Half the time via email he only answers about 1/2 my question ... keeping in mind I bought a link brand new from them. So I ain't a fan.
I've had both companies mess up on things I've ordered, both made it right with no hassle. I've seen Bell and FM both claim their products are better than each others. I'd say they are about equal in terms of slinging mud. I think posting private email messages on a forum is bad form with out the other parties permission. And I wonder what axe you are attempting to grind here? If you like BEGI buy from them. If you think Jeremy is a dick complain to someone at FM. |
Yeah, not trying to start a flamewar here or anything, just kinda surprised. Is FM enough bigger than Bell that they don't have to be nice to their customer base? Or are they enough bigger that they get a lot of tirekicking emails like mine and don't want to encourage it?
Here I am, vaguely willing to shell out $2K for the big hard parts, and BEGi says, "yes sir yes sir right away sir." and FM says "Buy the kit. It's on the website." |

I like BEGi, I have purchased components from both companies. FM has never let me down with service or in providing quality parts (which came from BEGi and other suppliers.) So I have nothing "bad" to say about FM, I just like the folks at BEGi a little more. Mark |
I like FM turbo setups...particularly the ones made by BEGI. :D

I perfer ARC racing products like the Evo boys. They never fail me with their inspirational words.

Well thats just the way the world works these days. People are always out to discredit other people :) Hell look at celebrities (not naming any names), they do something stupid, like.. say get preggo, then flash their privates, and dump Justin Timberlake, and its all over the news. Never mind the fact that that individual hadn't made a hit record in like 5 years.

Maybe I'll have to give Steph a call. :-)
I've dealt a lot more with FM, the main reason: low resolution pics of the stuff BEGI makes. I really want to see what I'm getting. I got a killer deal on a used FMII years back, and they have been good taking care of stuff they didn't need to. Then again, they let stuff go they really could do something about. Overall they are ok, but I too have noticed Jeremy isn't quite the replacement for Keith that he could be. Keith seems to be interested in cars. It's still better-than-average support, and I think they treat people well. I've gotten plenty of good advice from the folks at BEGI, it just turns out they never have quite what I'm looking for at quite what I have on hand to pay for it when I am in the market for something. My only real complaint about FM is I've caught them a couple times saying "We've never see that happen before" then months later I'll hear from a few people independently that they'd asked FM about it but they weren't any help. |

BEGi all the way. Quality can't be beat, and Steph's customer service is top notch. Corky's easy to get ahold of if needed as well.
I ordered the parts for my custom setup carefully, since I didn't want to be dicking with the major components. There's a reason my entire hotside is made up of BEGi parts. :) |

I've dealt with both a lot recently, never had a problem. Been working with Stephanie a bunch on an Xede install, Jeremy and Bill have been great in dealing with picking up some updated pieces for my older setup (did awesome with the moving sale!), and I spoke with Corky just yesterday about my old T25.
Hence my setup: 94 Classic Red BEGI 4.2 Voodoo Box, FM II intercooler, pipes, BOV and new style intake Soon to run Xede. Best of both! |

Like I said, FM has taken care of stuff that they could have blamed on me, and I've gotten a lot of great advice from them when I was new to all this. The last bit of advice almost implied that I should buy another computer when I had my boost creep issue (which, when directly asked, turned out not to be what was said)... Still, at least it was good to find out the issue was real. |
