WTF is it with broads and their expensive-*** handbags? Oooh, look, this one's made by so-n-so. It's only $10 in materials to make but it costs $700... for no reason whatsoever but to swell the wallett of the "designer" who figured out how to put a clasp on a sack made of fabric.

My wife bought a $35 diaper bag and I thought that was silly. It was ugly too, but she thought I wouldn't mind carrying it because it was light blue/brown checkers.. I made my own diaper bag out of a Vietnam-era general issue Army bag my dad used as a bookbag in college. I refuse to wear anything slung over my shoulder like a purse. I'm secure enough with myself (I mean, I drive a Miata), but I have dignity god dammit.

/rant

Sorry.

maybe i'm just being cynical. but i was figuring shes asian in LA. asian girls compare every goddamn thing, so the bag has to be at least 85% percentile price wise or her friends will all tell her her bf doesn't care about her. then factor in the LA thing. so yeah, if you wanted to make her really happy the bag would be $850 and then dinner on top.

or maybe my view of asian la girls is skewed. i did marry one tho so dunno...

+1 ain't that the truth. at least ppl in asia have taobao (asian ebay) where they can get ultra cheap knockoffs. somehow by some freak accident, a $10 taobao bag sells here for $500. go figure.

Pay someone to direct a high-class porno starring both of you. It could be very erotic.

When we where kids, B-day gifts where the stuff you wanted but could not afford. Now when we are grown up, the stuff you really want and haven't already bought for yourself are usually way to expensive for a B-day gift.

This is where giving an experience instead of a thing comes in. Give her a full day at the SPA: Massage + manicure+pedicure+whateveritiscalled+hustler+relax inginthesaunaafternringnailed for example.

Or you can ruin yourself on jewelry. That works too, but get ready to pay delux to match the big 30 B-day. Good luck.

$500 on a freaking birthday present? are you kidding me? bitch, please. If you're spending more than 1% of your annual income on a birthday present....holy ****. Learn how to cook a nice meal, clean house while she's at work, have the table set for her when she gets home, and get her a big bar of swiss white chocolate for her to take to work to show her friends - that will make them extremely jealous.

Or else: buy her a dish rag and an oven mitt, and tell her to shut up and get the **** back in the kitchen.

Experiences > Things

I think only JasonB understands...haha.

I presented the snowboarding idea. Didn't like it.

Looks like we're going to Hawaii.

Seems you've already found a solution.

here's the thing... you have to want to give the gift for it to be a good gift. if you are giving it out of some predefined requirement, then it's not really a gift now is it

Holy **** yes. I mean, if you love someone then that's great and spend your money but it really sounds like you are being had.

How much of this Hawaii vacation are you putting on credit cards?

None of it is being placed on the credit card.

So how many times have you actually wanted to give a gift?

hawaii is great idea. i was just going to suggest getting her tickets back to asia and do one of those glamour studio photo shoot things the asian girls are all crazy about these days. (the concept is to get glamour shots while yer still hot).

since you got hawaii, get her a gift which pays dividends

It's not much of a gift for either party if both sides don't want to give/get. Just seems like a payoff then. Gifts should be thoughtful and make someone happy with surprise, and the other happy to see the joy in them at getting...

Any gift that I've ever gotten someone has met one of two criteria:
1. I absolutely wanted to give the gift
2. The gift was less than $10

Hawaii? For a ******* birthday present? Thats some 25th Anniversary **** right there, wedding honeymoon even?

The more you spoil her, the more she's going to expect to be spoiled.

And this:

Birthday vacations like this are for wives, not girlfriends.

Holy ****, I hope you're rolling in money trees. Your wedding is going to cost YOU $200,000 easily b/c she's spoiled and you're a pushover.
