In fact I am. I will stop drinking white russians now.

Love white Russians.
If you would just measure contact depth like I told you to yesterday we can rule out an assembly fuck up and move on. Also just realized i have a half bottle of kaluha. |

No balls. |
I've got the perfect white russian mug to sit and watch this thread unfold

Fuggit, going to go get some half n half.
What is everyone's favorite vodka? |
Stolichnaya is usually what I keep in the house. Vanilla Stoli and orange juice is the perfect way to start any day. Tastes like those creamsicle popsicles.
|
I'm still at the age where the vodka i keep in the house is the stuff people leave at the house :dealwithit:

Goes great with jose and quaker oats.
|
Vodka? I have half a bottle of Ketel One in the freezer that's been there for... uh... over a decade now? :)

I will remember this and it won't end well.
Mix it with diet ginger ale (has to be diet) like 40/60 and it tastes identical to cream soda. CocaCola 30/70, you've got yourself a vanilla coke. Though I'm not much of a fan of this one. |
Don't mix it at all and get the taste of alcoholism.
|
I usually drink scotch like the old man that I am on the inside.

You can get away with 50/50 pretty easily, that vanilla is a strong flavor. I've tried several different brands (Skyy, Pinnacle, Veil (Total Wine house brand, actually not awful) and nothing seems to come out as smooth as Stoli.

I usually put the number liquor first. |

I need to find a fancy spanner wrench so I can open mine and swap the spring. This is all on the brown/black stripe 3psi INNER spring, correct?
Also, I prefer Tito's vodka if I'm making up white russians or bloody marys. Mmmm.... |
Luksusowa is best vodka. Luxury vodka distilled from potatoes and reasonably priced.

What is everyone's favorite vodka? Bison Grass vodka. Single greatest vodka to ever touch my lips, and that's saying something! |
Aidan, your post reminds me that I need to read and learn to set up ms3 to flash one of the dash lights when I pass a certain knock threshold.
Also, I hate vodka. I can deal with titos in a mixed drink. I'm more of a shaken dirty gin martini, negroni, greenpoint, Manhattan, kinda guy. Scotch and mezcal cocktails are next level. |
Titos vodka. Beefeater gin. Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey. Blanton's Bourbon. Ron Zacapa rum if drinking it straight. Mount Gay rum if not straight.

If you're a scotch guy, see if you can find Glen Moray. It's the best house scotch I've found for the price. It's a speyside and is ~25-30 bucks a bottle. For irish whiskey, I really like Jameson Caskmates (aged in stout barrels). I need to find a decent bourbon. I haven't really had much of it. |

Thanks you all for your advice. I have some shopping to do at total wine now.

I don't usually pick blended scotch.
Also, re: Irish whiskey. Had green spot and yellow spot at a bar in beggars busy, Dublin a few years ago. It was fantastic. Also Jack / pat Ryan? Can't remember which one it was.. |
i like the dewars 12. great bang for the buck. I had some Ron Zacapa rum when i was in Panama. It was great straight.
|
I first had good rum in Nicaragua. Fleur De Cana. Stuff was awesome. It was so cheap I bought the 12 and 18 year aged stuff for myself and a few as gifts for family. I was 18. I think I cried when a bottle broke in my suit case lol.
A friend and I would take a shot before and after every chem lab report we wrote. Oh frosh year of college.... |
i have nothing to add except, if you guys start a rum thread i'll finally have more to contribute to the forum

Hahahahahaha Epic thread move.

If you care about what type of booze, you're amateurs.
|
The taste only matters for the first 5 drinks.
|
|
But... we already had a BOTD thread.
|
I quite liked Ciroq vodka.
Turns out, I don't care for tequila. Hennessy can get fucked. That stuff sucks. gah. Worst night. |
I migrated from white russians yesterday to Zombie Dust by 3 floyds tonight.. solid beer.. i'm too drunk to follow the booze thread rules so beer it is..
oh, and I removed my cruise control on my miata because 3 floyds said it was a good idea (it didnt work anyways). |
I've lost more friends from tequila than anything else. Shit makes me very aggressive
|
The secret is to buy stuff that's so expensive you can't afford to get white girl wasted on it. My soon-to-be-wife makes fun of me when I get snooty about the tequila in my margaritas, but we're still together, so the joke's on her.
|
Life advice from the new Corky Bell. :D
No Cuervo in his oats, just Patron. |
.
|
Pro tip: White Russians do not use half-n-half you Philistines. Cream. Also, hit with just a splash of white Creme de Cacao.
Jameson. Red Breast is also pretty decent. Stoli or Ketel One...........best tasting cheap Vodka I've had is Sobieski Blanton or Woodford Reserve or Basil hayden. I find the Woodford Double Oaked a big too much wood bite on the front end. Rum? Meh, I might drink a Dark and Stormy if I'm at a Tiki Bar or in the Caribbean. The super aged stuff is really decent, but I've never seen the 25 year Appleton's at any liquor store that I can recall. Even at the shit hole shops in Negril it was still nearly $190 for 1L where it was $300 on the resorts. |

With the Cuban embargo being pretty much goneish? I highly recommend Havana Club in any year you can get, keeping in mind it is VERY much on the sweet side. A mojito with the 4 year dry white rum really is a thing of beauty.
http://cdnbevmo.nrostores.com/media/.../7/4/74218.jpg This with coconut water (better yet coconut water ice cubes) is my all time favorite drink. Not to sound foodnetworky but the prepackaged canned coconut water has sugar and shit added and personally tastes horrible, if you can get your hands on it fresh stuff really makes all the difference Any other rum from Appleton is a smooth drink and goes great with any clear soda's (7up/sprite/gingerale) EXCEPT APPLETON SPECIAL for christ sake don't do that to yourself. Flor De Cana has a very distinct flavor, the 7 year and ginger beer is a personal favorite. Bacardi is just awful, unless its Oakheart or you're already drunk and as the saying goes, any port for a storm. Bajan rum will give you diabetes but you will enjoy every sip of it, Cockspur in particular is on par with Havana Club in sweetness. Mount Gay isn't bad either There is a Colombian rum called Canitas or something of the sort, I'll try to find out the exact name today, its bar non THE smoothest white rum I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Local to me there is Seven Fathoms, it's not my go to rum but it does go down nicely, they age it in oak barrels 7 fathoms down which is pretty cool (hence the name). I usually stick to Appleton VX or their Signature blend, not too expensive and not hangover inducing bargain rum. I don't allow myself to buy bottles of expensive alcohol in general because I don't appreciate it and will finish it in short order :giggle: |

All these liquor mixes sound great  ...
Shame I've moved on to just lemon vodka & club soda. With some TX Whiskey shots in between. http://www.deepeddyvodka.com/wp-cont...tle_lemon.png? http://fnr.herokuapp.com/system/imag...ottle-big.png? |
If you really want to start a holy war, we can discuss whisky vs whiskey ;)

Not too many Bourbon drinkers?
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e92f24f70b.png Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Double Double Oaked Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (45.2% ABV, $50 per 375 ml) – Woodford has taken their Double Oaked Whiskey (which is basically Woodford Reserve) and finished it in a heavily toasted new oak barrel. The Double Double (can’t say this without thinking about In ‘N Out Burger) Oaked takes their existing product and lets it mature for an additional year in the toasted oak finishing barrel. It sounds like a gimmick, but the results are anything but. Dark amber in color, as you’d expect oak is the star player of the nose. The oak here is less assertive than expected, and there’s a sense that the whiskey has had an opportunity to really digest the oak. Here the oak reads more weathered and varnished than sharp and fresh cut. The nose also features some nice dark brown sugar notes as well as some fig. Underneath all this is a bit of a bite, with a touch of acidity and cinnamon spice – that core whiskey showing that it’s still very much alive in the mix with the oak. As with the nose, the entry is much more understated than expected. The deep oak notes are there, but they’re reserved and mellowed. This old oak is backed by the deep brown sugar from the nose and a lovely mouthfeel, all combining to make an enticing entry. The intensity of flavor ramps up as we move to the midpalate. All that wonderful weathered oak intermingles with some of Woodford’s classic flavor notes including cherry, orange, and cinnamon and joined by brown sugar and fig. The integration of flavors in the midpalate is exceptional and the balance between oak and the other flavors is right on point. Towards the end of the midpalate the cinnamon spice increases and we get a solid dash of heat. This drives a finish that is slightly dry and, again, less oaky than we’d expect. Although the Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked isn’t a very old whiskey (like Diageo’s 21 year old Rhetoric Orphan Barrel release), it does an excellent job of showing how the relationship between a spirit and a barrel can mature and progress. This whiskey has had ample opportunity to really digest the oak aging, and while the oak is very much a part of the core character, the base spirit is still very present and integrated. 94 points. |
I love scotch.
I can't stomach the super peaty stuff though. Like licking ashtrays. |
All of your arguments are invalid. Blended white Russian.
1/3 cup off all 3 plus ice. Blend. Win. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...9c151cb4e2.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...764280d47b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...778f592d12.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...430cb1c546.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8d57066e69.jpg |

Skip the lactose and drink a Mount Gay and tonic with 4 or 5 slices of lime in a tall glass on a hot day. Learned that one in the West Indies. *Does not taste right with other rums for some odd reason, but VERY good on a sweltering hot day.
