The secret is to buy stuff that's so expensive you can't afford to get white girl wasted on it. My soon-to-be-wife makes fun of me when I get snooty about the tequila in my margaritas, but we're still together, so the joke's on her.

Pro tip: White Russians do not use half-n-half you Philistines. Cream. Also, hit with just a splash of white Creme de Cacao.

Jameson. Red Breast is also pretty decent.

Stoli or Ketel One...........best tasting cheap Vodka I've had is Sobieski

Blanton or Woodford Reserve or Basil hayden. I find the Woodford Double Oaked a big too much wood bite on the front end.

Rum? Meh, I might drink a Dark and Stormy if I'm at a Tiki Bar or in the Caribbean. The super aged stuff is really decent, but I've never seen the 25 year Appleton's at any liquor store that I can recall. Even at the shit hole shops in Negril it was still nearly $190 for 1L where it was $300 on the resorts.

If we start doing that we'll need an entire subforum for all the different booze types. We should probably keep our alcoholism restricted to this one and the beer thread :giggle:

lol tequila. On 2-3 Saturdays per month, from the ages of probably 24-28, I used to head over to a friends place and the 4 of us would smash a couple 24 packs of Corona, BBQ whatever one of the guys had stolen from his catering/kitchen job, and while the other 3 would smoke a metric ton of weed I'd "save the deer"

That deer. Gotta make sure he doesn't drown!

It shouldn't surprise me that 2 of those guys are now dead.

With the Cuban embargo being pretty much goneish? I highly recommend Havana Club in any year you can get, keeping in mind it is VERY much on the sweet side. A mojito with the 4 year dry white rum really is a thing of beauty.

http://cdnbevmo.nrostores.com/media/.../7/4/74218.jpg
This with coconut water (better yet coconut water ice cubes) is my all time favorite drink. Not to sound foodnetworky but the prepackaged canned coconut water has sugar and shit added and personally tastes horrible, if you can get your hands on it fresh stuff really makes all the difference

Any other rum from Appleton is a smooth drink and goes great with any clear soda's (7up/sprite/gingerale) EXCEPT APPLETON SPECIAL for christ sake don't do that to yourself.

Flor De Cana has a very distinct flavor, the 7 year and ginger beer is a personal favorite.

Bacardi is just awful, unless its Oakheart or you're already drunk and as the saying goes, any port for a storm.

Bajan rum will give you diabetes but you will enjoy every sip of it, Cockspur in particular is on par with Havana Club in sweetness. Mount Gay isn't bad either

There is a Colombian rum called Canitas or something of the sort, I'll try to find out the exact name today, its bar non THE smoothest white rum I have ever had the pleasure of drinking.

Local to me there is Seven Fathoms, it's not my go to rum but it does go down nicely, they age it in oak barrels 7 fathoms down which is pretty cool (hence the name).

I usually stick to Appleton VX or their Signature blend, not too expensive and not hangover inducing bargain rum. I don't allow myself to buy bottles of expensive alcohol in general because I don't appreciate it and will finish it in short order :giggle:

All these liquor mixes sound great  ...
Shame I've moved on to just lemon vodka & club soda. With some TX Whiskey shots in between.

If you really want to start a holy war, we can discuss whisky vs whiskey ;)

You only need 2 things for a good weekend.

It's not ultra rare, or even all that super special, but its like drinking a campfire in a peat bog. Glorious.

Not too many Bourbon drinkers?

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e92f24f70b.png

Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Double Double Oaked Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (45.2% ABV, $50 per 375 ml) – Woodford has taken their Double Oaked Whiskey (which is basically Woodford Reserve) and finished it in a heavily toasted new oak barrel. The Double Double (can’t say this without thinking about In ‘N Out Burger) Oaked takes their existing product and lets it mature for an additional year in the toasted oak finishing barrel. It sounds like a gimmick, but the results are anything but.

Dark amber in color, as you’d expect oak is the star player of the nose. The oak here is less assertive than expected, and there’s a sense that the whiskey has had an opportunity to really digest the oak. Here the oak reads more weathered and varnished than sharp and fresh cut. The nose also features some nice dark brown sugar notes as well as some fig. Underneath all this is a bit of a bite, with a touch of acidity and cinnamon spice – that core whiskey showing that it’s still very much alive in the mix with the oak.

As with the nose, the entry is much more understated than expected. The deep oak notes are there, but they’re reserved and mellowed. This old oak is backed by the deep brown sugar from the nose and a lovely mouthfeel, all combining to make an enticing entry.

The intensity of flavor ramps up as we move to the midpalate. All that wonderful weathered oak intermingles with some of Woodford’s classic flavor notes including cherry, orange, and cinnamon and joined by brown sugar and fig. The integration of flavors in the midpalate is exceptional and the balance between oak and the other flavors is right on point. Towards the end of the midpalate the cinnamon spice increases and we get a solid dash of heat. This drives a finish that is slightly dry and, again, less oaky than we’d expect.

Although the Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked isn’t a very old whiskey (like Diageo’s 21 year old Rhetoric Orphan Barrel release), it does an excellent job of showing how the relationship between a spirit and a barrel can mature and progress. This whiskey has had ample opportunity to really digest the oak aging, and while the oak is very much a part of the core character, the base spirit is still very present and integrated. 94 points.

I love scotch.

I can't stomach the super peaty stuff though. Like licking ashtrays.

farpolemiddle 05-12-2017 04:49 PM

All of your arguments are invalid. Blended white Russian.
1/3 cup off all 3 plus ice. Blend. Win.

Don't try and modify this magic. If you are lactose intolerant then suck it up and shit your brains out later.

Exactly what I was hoping to avoid

sixshooter 05-12-2017 07:35 PM

Skip the lactose and drink a Mount Gay and tonic with 4 or 5 slices of lime in a tall glass on a hot day. Learned that one in the West Indies. *Does not taste right with other rums for some odd reason, but VERY good on a sweltering hot day.
